Enviro-Wackos and The War on Terror
First, the enviro-wackos got bent out of shape over the drilling for oil in parts of Alaska. Now the governor or New Mexico and the environmentalists are bellyaching over the decision by the Bush Administration to approve drilling for oil and natural gas in the federal lands at Otera Mesa.
The Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said energy companies will be closely monitored and only 1,589 acres will be disturbed from well pads, roads and pipelines, which is less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the area's total 2 million acres located in the south-central portion of New Mexico on the Texas border.
For this, they're getting hysterical?
The agency will permanently protect almost 36,000 acres of grassland having the highest potential as habitat for the endangered Aplomado falcon, and drilling will not be allowed on a total of 124,000 acres.
Quite magnanimous, since we're fighting a war on terror, and anything we can do lessen our dependence on oil from the Middle Eastern rogue states is a plus. So I just can't understand why people are worried about the fate of the Aplomado Falcons at a time like this.
But then again, on my site, I've blogged about moonbatts in Manhattan who were protesting the removal of a hawk's nest from the cornice of a chic chic coop building overlooking Central Park. And as a result, I've become known as the Hawk Girl.
Oy, some things just never change.
