Lyric Fragment Quiz Answers
Never got around to providing the answers to this quiz, but I guess George, Morpheus, Michelle and other readers got almost all of them. Still, just to make it official, here are the songs:
1. "US inflation" Wall of Voodoo, Mexican Radio
2. "put an arrow" Ratt, Round and Round
3. "take me bottom to top" Donna Summer's Dim All the Lights, which I thought was just a sort of sweet song about romancin' and dancin', but nope, turns out the lyrics are pretty dirty.
4. "elders of the gentle race" Led Zep, Kashmir
5. "cold in the gutter" I don't think anyone got this-- TLC, Waterfalls.
6. "empty by definition" -- Scritti Politti, A Perfect Way
7. "a trace of/hypocrisy" -- Extreme, Rest in Peace (Make Love Not War)
8. "thick and juicy" -- Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-lot. I don't think anyone got this, which surprised me.
9. "wild-eyed boys" -- Thin Lizzy, The Boys are Back in Town
10. "you could sex her" -- Young MC, Bust a Move
11. "Dealin' in multiplication" -- Eddie Grant, Electric Avenue
12. "this issue's gone" -- J. Geils Band, Centerfold
13. "I just drove by" -- Vanilla Ice, Ice Ice Baby
14. "feedin' me soup" -- Another one no one got. I'm not big on hip hop, but man, when I heard this song six or seven years ago, I cracked up laughing. It's Positive K, I Got a Man.
15. "ass like John McEnroe" -- House of Pain, Jump Around
16. "your price for flight" (CHANGED: Was "desperately pondered." Decided that was too obscure. The new lyric is for a new song entirely.) Nightranger, Sister Christian (way easy). The old lyric was from Lovefool by... um, the Cranberries? I forget.
17. "virginal brides" -- Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus
18. "lost my light" -- Tainted Love by Soft Cell.
19. "your exclusive company" (HINT: Spoken word part.) -- Popular by Nada Surf
20. "act like an imbecile" Safety Dance, Men Without Hats
21. "shoot it in" -- Relax, Frankie Goes to Hollywood
22. "great big world" -- I was suprised that no one seemed to get this. It's from American Girl by Tom Petty. After all, it was a great big world...
23. "subtle innuendoes" or "subtle innuendo" Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant
24. "raw like sushi" Ahem. Rico Suave, by Geraldo, or whatever his name was.
25. "little bit terrified" Total Eclipse of the Heart, Bonnie Tyler. Written by Jim Steinman.
26. "tuning in on you" -- Video Killed the Radio Star, the Buggles
27. "eight by twelve four-bit" -- King of the Road by Roger Miller
28. "hating you for loving me" -- Berlin, The Metro
29. "host of holy horrors" -- Rush, Freewill
30. "oatmeal lumpy" -- the Humpty Dance by the Digital Underground
