THE MORNING RANT – Report From The Heartland Institute’s “Climate Realism” Conference

Shark attacks and ice cream.JPG

Happy Friday! I had the good fortune of meeting quite a few Ace of Spades readers at the Heartland Institute’s “15th International Conference on Climate Change” in Orlando last weekend. It was a pleasure to get to know you!

In addition, it was a great pleasure to listen to and personally visit with many of the great scientists who are working to debunk the fraudulent pseudo-science of climate communism. Among these people were Anthony Watts, Steve Milloy, Joe Bastardi, Lord Christopher Monkton, and many others.

Representative Lauren Boebert and Senator Ron Johnson gave keynote speeches. We have some great allies in Congress, but just not enough of them. We need more Boeberts and Johnsons.

I was relieved to hear not one speaker giving any credence to the talking points of the Republican surrender caucus (by whom I mean those “conservatives” who talk about slowing down the conversion to net zero rather than emphatically rejecting net zero and also rejecting unreliable “sustainable” energy.) Across the board, there was a passionate rejection of any attempts to eliminate or even reduce carbon-based energy or petroleum production.

There was also a great deal of debunking of CO2 alarmism, as it was repeatedly pointed out that over many millenia CO2 has been much higher (and also much lower) than the current parts per million (“ppm”). Climate cultists repeatedly state that CO2 causes global temperatures to rise because over Earth’s history, CO2 ppm were often higher during periods when the climate was warm. But that is like saying that wet roads are the cause of rain. More likely, the events that caused historic periods of warming also caused CO2 to rise, since there were no SUV-driving humans infesting the Earth back then to produce all that CO2.

Correlation is not causation as shown by the humorous chart above, which shows a disturbing increase in shark attacks as people start buying more ice cream each summer.

I will never stop mocking the leaders and evangelists of the Sustainable Organic Church Of The Carbon Apocalypse, nor will I ever stop my efforts to assertively push back against them, but there was an important message delivered by Alex Epstein. He gave an excellent presentation on the moral case for fossil fuels, without which human flourishing is suspended, and how without fossil fuels, those who are living impoverished lives in underdeveloped countries are then consigned to live in poverty forever.

Granted, much of the ruling class believes that there are several billion too many people in those countries, and the elite’s goal is to not lift those people up, but rather to reduce their numbers.

But for persuadable people who have compassion in their hearts, and who might have been led to believe that net zero is the compassionate direction, we must make the case that fossil fuels are the compassionate way to advance all humans, and that inflicting the permanent poverty of net zero on those in poverty is cruel and inhumane.

Along those lines, another challenge we have in fighting back against net-zero is that those pushing to eliminate fossil fuels see petroleum only as an energy source, thus they only make the case that they need to replace the energy from fossil fuels.

But so much more comes from petroleum, without which there are none of the products that we rely on for our daily lives.

Things Made From Oil.JPG

As this brief one-minute video from Ronald Stein points out, electricity can make a defibrillator work, but petroleum is necessary to actually manufacture the defibrillator, as well as thousands of other products that we rely on every day.

Anthony Watts had an excellent presentation on how horribly corrupted NOAA’s weather stations are, pointing out that 96% of stations are not situated properly, allowing retained heat from rocks and pavement to distort the readings.

Below is an example of a weather station which sits at the top of a sunlit rock wall in Colfax, CA. Those rocks are holding a lot of heat. Before the station was moved to this spot, it had sat in a grass field at this same firehouse, but during a building renovation the weather station was moved to this corrupted site.

Last July, I wrote about Watt’s findings. There is a little more detail at this link.

Joe Bastardi also had a lot to say about how corrupted the government weather establishment is, be it weather stations or hurricane intensity or climate models, pointing out that 75% of the world’s volcanoes are in oceans, and the impact of their underwater emissions and eruptions are unknown to those modeling Earth’s long-term climate

One thing that I was pleasantly surprised to hear was several speakers making the case that a spiritual reawakening is also necessary to counter the religiosity of the climate cult. Christianity has collapsed in much of the western world, but humans are hard wired to be religious, and the Church of Climate has rushed in to fill that void. Is there any religious belief more ingrained in human history than the conviction that bad weather and natural disasters are caused because of sinful human behavior? That atavistic belief is the foundation of the climate agenda.

I’ll likely have additional posts refencing information from the conference, but this is enough for today. Thanks to Jim Lakely and the Heartland team for putting on this fantastic “climate skeptic” hootenanny, and for being a central clearinghouse for the scientists and politicians actively pushing back against climate communism.

All speakers and sessions can be found in a series of videos at this link. If you would like to see the speeches from Rep. Boebert or Sen. Johnson, they can be found in the first video at the 1:52:45 mark and 0:47:00 mark respectively.

Songs of the Season

Speaking of climate, it’s now March, and “Meterological Spring” began on March 1. However, Joe Bastardi says that the mild late winter many of us in the East have been enjoying is about to give way to a wintry March. Since it’s still too early to start turning dirt in my garden, I’m up for a few more flurries if that’s in the cards.

Here is Deanna Durbin from 1944 singing ”Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year”

Spring will be a little late this year
A little late arriving in my lonely world over here
For you have left me and where is our April of old?
You have left me, Winter continues cold

As if to say spring will be a little slow to start
A little slow reviving that music it made in my heart
Yes, time heals all things so I needn't cling to this fear
It's merely that spring will be a little late this year

Have a great weekend.
