HOW TO PET A DOG YOU DON'T KNOW according to veterinarians

Tip: Don't pat the dog on its head.

A personal tip from me: Don't lean over a stressed dog you don't know. Or even a stressed pet you DO know, like Oona Mae, above.

Meet The PetMorons

Molly 14.jpg

Long-time lurker here, I lost Molly just about a year ago to cancer. She was over 14 and had beat cancer three times earlier. She was a cantankerous, ornery, and completely lovable Staffordshire/Lab mix. Found abandoned at about six weeks old with the rest of her litter. I got her when she was 12 weeks old. She loved to break into my vegetable garden and steal zucchini and cucumbers to snack on. A month before she died, slowed by arthritis and cancer, she still deliberately walked into my knee to push me out of the way so that she could get the first cucumber of the season. She normally slept in my room but when I got home from Afghanistan years ago (deployed as a civilian) she spent the first three nights sleeping against the front door so I couldn't leave without her knowing. She was a good dog.

Despite her irascible nature, all of the other pets in the extended family loved her and she put up with them, even sharing her favorite couch with them.

She looks like a great dog. Looks pretty patient with the other pets in the household. I'm sure you and the other pets miss her. Jameson also shown in the photo above.

Hello there -

Continuing story of our rescue dog Maizie, who, if you'll recall, was purchased as a COVID puppy by people who really didn't want a COVID dog, and kept her kenneled 20 hours a day. We ended up with her about 11 months ago (it was a total God-thing), and boy what a jackpot. She is such a smart, sweet and totally goofy dog, who went from cowering in a corner to leaping off the boat in adoration of swimming (which she had never done before). Only retriever we've ever had that will happily go after whatever you throw, and ... not bring it back. We're working on it though. Such a good girl. Love the thread, makes me smile every Saturday. Thank you.

sasha rr cat.jpg

Hello Pet Morons meet Sasha. She is a 12 year old rescue cat who recently suffered a stroke after valiantly defending herself from an attack by a dog loose in the neighborhood. While she has now substantially recovered and can walk again, the stroke has left her blind. Sasha now loves napping in the sun on her special bed next to the patio doors and dreaming of her glory days when she would climb to the top of the roof and survey the neighborhood for hobos or keeping the squirrels at bay on the back deck. The picture is from about a year ago when she was in her prime and to this day after all that has happened she still doesn't have a bad meow to say to anyone.

Our Moron corgi Snickers had to endure the humiliation of being dressed up when Little purchased a mini pet-sombrero at Walmart.

So she got memed....

Bitter Clinger

Fantastica!

Special from Mister Scott:

The African Grey Parrot is Sarah Ann Marie and she is grooming MIdnight, the cat our son rescued from the minefield at GITMO.

Wow! There's a story and an animal friendship you don't see every day!
