RIP Tom Skerritt

Tom Skerritt, Star of ‘Picket Fences’ and ‘Alien,’ Dies at 93

Tom Skerritt, the rough-hewn actor who sparkled amid ensembles in M*A*S*H, Alien and Top Gun before starring as small-town sheriff Jimmy Brock on the quirky 1990s series Picket Fences, has died. He was 93.

Skerritt died Wednesday in Seattle of natural causes, his family announced.

“We are heartbroken by his loss,” they said. “While the world knew Tom through his remarkable acting career, we knew him for his humor, curiosity, wisdom, generosity and the love he brought into our lives. He cared deeply about imagination, creativity, storytelling, service, veterans, the natural world and helping others find and share their own voices.”

You need to understand how Right-wing people under 40 view the Left.

When we think of Leftists, we do not think of Barack Obama or Ezra Klein. Yes, these guys are on the Left, but younger Millennials and Zoomers on the Right do not think of Leftists in their own age bracket as polished technocrats.

We think of Discord troons that invaded our hobbies, Reddit mods who are drunk on the most insignificant power imaginable, that one girl from high school or college who became a literal Communist, and that friend or family member who cut off all contact because we refused to treat their mental illness like a status symbol.

They know what is to come if their own generational cohorts on the Left actually take power, and they feel incredibly exasperated that it seems like none of their parents or grandparents understand just how late the hour truly is.

Minneapolis restaurant that offered free meals to protest ICE raids announces closure

Modern Times Café, a Minneapolis restaurant that attempted to eliminate prices, has announced it will be closing for good by the end of the year.

“For the last six years, I’ve been trying to prove that Modern Times can continue to exist,” owner Dylan Alverson wrote on social media Saturday. “I’ve exhausted every option without compromising the core fundamentals that make Modern Times what it is.”

Alverson announced on Instagram in January that his business, which rebranded as Post Modern Times, would operate as a “free and donation-based restaurant” where everyone would be welcome “except ICE” in protest of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations happening in his state, partly in response to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Trump says companies should pay 'dividend' to communities to make data centers popular

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that companies ​building data centers should pay a "dividend" to the communities ‌where they are sited if they want to make the developments popular.

"I have watched the process closely, and data centers that were highly unpopular in ​a certain area, have become extremely popular when a ​financial deal is struck," Trump said in a Truth Social ⁠post.

The Trump administration, which has prioritized rapid AI development to compete with China, has ​also noted the shifting voter sentiment.

"New and large, in some cases ​gigantic, Data (centers) are mandated by me to make their own electricity, and give ‌or ⁠sell any excess back to the local community, or grid," Trump said in his post.

Trump said in February that major technology companies must build their own power plants, opens new tab for their data centers in ​order to protect ​consumers from rising ⁠bills.

AI giant Anthropic and Elon Musk have laid out blueprints in recent days for sharing some of ​the spoils of the AI boom.

Much to the disappointment of my proud Masshole significant other, I agree with Dunkin' being overrated - at least for their donuts and other "food" offerings. I will, however, take their coffee 10 out of 10 times over Starbucks.
