The incredible incident unfolded on September 30, 2026, when the clever pooch casually strolled up to the front doors of the Tampa Police Department. Amused officers welcomed the unexpected guest and playfully dubbed him a "K-9 applicant" humorously adding that his application was only rejected because their roster was already completely full.
Instead of putting him to work, an officer escorted Chico to a local veterinarian to scan for a microchip. The quick scan successfully retrieved his family's contact information, and police immediately reached out to his worried owner.
Later that day, the department's bodycam footage captured the emotional moment Chico was reunited with his tearful owner. The owner, overwhelmed with relief, hugged her adventurous pet and explained to officers that Chico simply loves the outdoors and must have wandered a bit too far during his playtime.
