Trump Gives Order to Subject Fort Hood Terror Shooter Nidal Malik Hasan His Own Bout of State-Sanctioned Workplace Violence

Last week I linked an article asking rhetorically, why is this terrorist murderer, who killed 13 people, still drawing air, despite having been convicted and sentenced to death?

Why has Trump not given the execution order yet?

Well, Trump signed the order.

This is the AP, so expect some bias in reporting this.

President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas.

The U.S. military has not carried out the death penalty since 1961. The Army secretary will decide a time and place for the execution, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell wrote in a post on X.

"Judgement day for Hasan has finally come," Parnell wrote.

Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, walked into a medical building where soldiers were getting medical checkups, shouted "Allahu akbar" -- Arabic for "God is great!" -- and opened fire with a laser-sighted handgun. Thirteen people were killed and more than 30 injured.

He said it was an effort to stop them from going to Afghanistan and killing his fellow Muslims and made almost no effort to defend himself at trial. He told jurors that evidence would show he was the shooter and described himself as a soldier who had "switched sides."

Death sentences are extremely rare in the military justice system, and executions even rarer.

It is also rare for a "soldier" to murder 13 of his fellows and wound 30 others while shouting terrorist murder-slogans.

Trump approved the firing squad execution days after a failed attempt to execute Christa Pike by lethal injection pushed Tennessee's governor to halt further executions this year and order an independent review.

What has that got to do with anything?

Since AP added that unrelated factoid to show how barbaric it is to punish murderers with death, I'll mention that the prison official overseeing Christa Pike's botched execution has resigned.

The head of Tennessee's prison system is set to resign after the botched execution of Christa Pike earlier this week, Gov. Bill Lee announced Saturday.

Lee said that Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada will step down this month, but did not offer any other specifics.

Strada said in a statement that he believes "the Department carried out its responsibilities in accordance with the established protocol," but that "stepping aside is in the best interest" of the state's residents as an independent review ordered by Lee begins.

"I believe this review is entirely appropriate and necessary, and I look forward to doing everything I can to help determine exactly what occurred," Strada said. Strada was named commissioner by Lee in January 2023.

Pike was set to be executed by lethal injection on Wednesday, but the process failed twice. Pike's attorneys said Friday that she is unconscious and intubated in a Nashville-area hospital. She is using a ventilator to breathe and has significant injuries to both arms, her attorneys said. Hospital staff is working to clear the pentobarbital from her body.
