THE MORNING RANT: In Defiance of the Climate Cult’s Apocalyptic Prophecies, there Have Been Zero Hurricanes in the Atlantic so far this Year

We are now past the peak of hurricane season, and this has been a very quiet year in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of America. In fact, we are in unchartered territory due to the complete and total absence of any hurricanes this year in the Atlantic basin. There has never been a year in recorded history without a hurricane this far into September. To be clear, this is not a discussion of hurricane landfalls, this is about the complete and total absence of hurricane formation.

There are no hurricanes on the horizon, either. There have not even been any tropical storms with sustained winds exceeding 60 mph. (74 mph is the threshold for hurricane classification.)

According to the childishly simple logic of the Church of Climate, because more hurricanes are proof of global warning, then an absence of hurricanes is proof of “global cooling.” It would be preposterous, of course, to use this year’s hurricane season as proof of global cooling, but it is just as preposterous to make the counterclaim in years that are tropically active.

Hurricane season will reach its approximate peak on Friday — but this year, not a single hurricane has yet formed in the Atlantic Ocean, setting a new record for a lack of storms. This is the latest into the Atlantic season without a hurricane forming since weather satellites were first launched in the 1960s.

Climate cultists and their propaganda arm in the legacy media have been prophesying “stronger and more frequent” hurricanes for decades now. This is part of their “global warming” scare campaign, for which their solution is banning carbon fuels and imposing command and control over all economic activity. In other words, only communism will please their angry climate God.

An important facet of the climate hoax has been to report any “above normal” weather of any sort as proof of climate change. This is an example of statistical and numerical ignorance, of course, because “normal” is being used as a synonym for median or average, but by definition 50% of all inputs are necessarily above the median.

Back in 2020 and 2021, there was above average tropical storm development in the Atlantic. The scientifically ignorant media, relying on the scientifically dishonest “climate experts,” matter-of-factly reported that increase in tropical activity as being due to a warming planet: “How Tropical Storms and Hurricanes Have Hit U.S. Shores with unparalleled Frequency; A record 18 storms and hurricanes have made landfall in the past two years”

Unrelenting and unprecedented, back-to-back Atlantic hurricane seasons have punished the Gulf and East coasts of the United States. An unsurpassed 49 named storms have formed over the warming Atlantic waters since the start of the 2020 season, with a record-setting 18 striking the Lower 48 states, including seven hurricanes.

Scientists say this record-setting stretch of storminess is connected to a period of heightened hurricane activity that began in 2017 but may become increasingly common as the planet warms.

A warming planet had nothing to do with the record number of storms in 2020 and 2021. There were two main reasons:

1) Aggressive naming of storms: In decades past, to be classified as a “tropical storm” there had to be a circular rotation and sustained winds of at least 39 mph. Nowadays, to pump up the number of storms, pretty much any offshore thunderstorm that registers a 39 mph gust gets classified as a tropical storm. In addition, until satellites were employed in the mid-1960s, storms in the mid-Atlantic were not named at all.

2) La Nina: 2020 and 2021 were years with La Ninas in the eastern Pacific Ocean. La Ninas are periods when cool water rises to the surface of the equatorial Pacific (due to strong trade winds pushing the surface water westward.) This predictably results in more Atlantic hurricanes due to how it lessens wind shear over the Atlantic.

By contrast, there is a strong El Nino right now. The westerly trade winds have lessened, as is their cyclical norm, and warm water is pooling in the eastern Pacific. This has the effect of increasing wind shear in the Atlantic, suppressing hurricane development. There is also a lot of dry, dusty air moving west from the Sahara Desert into the Atlantic, also helping to suppress tropical activity.

The real-world reality is that there is neither man-made global warming nor global cooling. It is sinister how weather has been politicized by the left to try to deny people freedom and economic liberty. But since the beginning of time, it has been the practice of high priests and political leaders to blame bad weather on the “sinful” behavior of ordinary citizens as a means of increasing the leaders’ power and control.

The climate community has made the case that hurricanes are fueled by carbon usage, and that the only trajectory would be stronger and more frequent hurricanes unless fossil fuels are banned. This year’s lack of hurricanes disproves their crackpot theory. The climate community – and their pagan religion – deserve abundant mockery in this year without a hurricane.
