Ric-Rac Is Back and Looking Extra Cute

Welcome to our fun fashion update, where we celebrate the little details that make an outfit feel alive. This week’s star is pure whimsy: ric-rac and it is so, so cute.

That classic braid trim, the one that looks like a happy little wave, has been zigzagging its way back onto dresses, tops, skirts, and even accessories. Once a staple of mid-century home sewing and adorable 1950s–60s dresses, ric-rac is now getting a modern refresh. Designers and brands are using it as playful contrast edging on hems, necklines, sleeves, and tiered skirts, turning simple silhouettes into something full of personality.

What makes it feel so fresh right now is the mix of nostalgia but in a larger, bolder statement. Ric-rac offers pure delight. A pop of contrasting color (think bright pink against navy, white on gingham, or bold tones on soft florals) adds instant movement and texture. It’s the fashion equivalent of a wink. You’ll spot it on tiered dresses that swish with extra bounce, blouses with ric-rac framing the neckline or cuffs, and even maxi styles where the zigzag creates subtle structure and visual interest.
