Paul Orders Fauci Attorney Removed From Hearing

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., ordered one of Dr. Anthony Fauci's attorneys removed from a Senate hearing Wednesday after the former White House chief medical adviser repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during questioning about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The confrontation unfolded before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where the Kentucky Republican had subpoenaed Fauci to testify about the origins of the coronavirus and the federal government's response to the pandemic, reports The Hill.

Before questioning began, Fauci criticized Paul, accusing the committee chairman of being intent on securing his prosecution.

"The only conclusion I can reach is that the sole reason he is calling me before this committee is to get me to say something, anything that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up in his words 'behind bars,'" Fauci said.

When Paul began questioning him, Fauci repeatedly declined to answer, invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. He gave the same response to questions from Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla.

Meanwhile, the hearing briefly descended into a procedural dispute when one of Fauci's attorneys, David Schertler, repeatedly attempted to address the committee without being recognized by the chairman.

Paul said Schertler had been instructed not to sit at the witness table with Fauci and was not authorized to participate in the hearing, reports The New York Post.

"You will respect these proceedings. You were told not to sit at the table. You insist on sitting at the table, and we told you you would not be recognized. You are not invited here for testimony, sir. You are being disruptive," Paul told Schertler.

"Would you behave this way in a courtroom? No, because the judge would put you in jail. I can't do that today. But I can have you escorted from the premises," added Paul.

After Schertler continued trying to speak, Paul added, "There's a row behind you, sir. That's where you were told to sit … and now you're disrupting the proceedings."

"This is the way Anthony Fauci wants to be remembered: for a lawyer not listening to the rules," Paul continued. "That's the way you want to be remembered, and that's what you're going to do."

Paul then directed security to escort Schertler from the hearing room, saying, "Let the record state that Dr. Fauci will still have the advice of the other half a dozen attorneys that he brought along today."

I do not have enough disgust for the sanctimonious and megalomaniac "Doctor" Fauci and his shyster mouth piece Schertler.

I'll say this for Hitler. He was open and honest compared to Anthony Fauci. And that is my rant for the day.
