Wednesday Night ONT - June 17, 2026 [TRex]

20260615-IMG_20260615_082331678_HDR.jpg

Good evening Horde. The time has come for mid-week shenanigans. The bar is open and freshly re-stocked.

Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and join the fun. Good will offerings of amusing puns are encouraged. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. This is a Tucker, Candace, Megyn and Bill Kristol free zone. Please.

Are you concerned that the problems in your crawl space might interfere with your ability to comment with brevity and wit? You can overcome. (Could be worse. You could have snakes in your ductwork.)

Yum! Brands, Inc. enters into agreements to sell Pizza Hut for $2.7 billion

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 16, 2026 - Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM) ("Yum!" or the "Company") today announced that it has entered into definitive agreements to sell Pizza Hut for $2.7 billion in the aggregate, subject to certain purchase price adjustments.

Pizza Hut, excluding Mainland China ("Pizza Hut Ex-China"), will be acquired by LongRange Capital ("LongRange"), a private equity firm with a customer-centric and operationally oriented approach, and Pizza Hut in Mainland China ("Pizza Hut China") will be acquired by Yum China Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: YUMC; HKEX: 9987) ("Yum China").

Under the terms of the agreement with LongRange, Yum! will sell Pizza Hut Ex-China to LongRange for approximately $1.5 billion. Additionally, Yum! has the opportunity to receive an earn-out of $75 million by 2030.

Under the terms of the agreement with Yum China, Yum! will sell Pizza Hut China to Yum China for approximately $1.2 billion.

I'm not familiar with LongRange Capital but they are reportedly the majority owner of 24 hour fitness. Just bring back the old school Pizza Huts and all will be well.

Kangaroo on the loose in field near Montreal

Animal rescuers in Quebec are asking the public to keep an eye out for a juvenile kangaroo on the loose along Montreal's South Shore.

The Galahad SPCA said the kangaroo was first reported Wednesday being kept improperly in a stable, and officials believe it may have been being kept illegally.

The SPCA said no kangaroo permits had been issued in the area.

The Miller Zoo has offered to give the kangaroo a new home, but SPCA officials said Quebec's Ministry of the Environment told them that a permit would be required to capture and transport the kangaroo.

Kangaroo permits must be a big deal in Montreal. Glad that officials are on the job to ensure that a helpful zoo knows is currently has no permit to house a kangaroo. Zoos need to get specific permits for each animal? I guess that which is not specifically permitted is prohibited. Glad Canada has solved all of its other problems so that it can focus on kangaroo permits. I can hear the people of Australia laughing...

License Plate Cameras Will Soon Track Phones, Wearables, Infotainment, and Even Your Pets

A new kind of license-plate-reading camera will also scrape the smart devices you take with you, and wrap all that data in a nice little bow for law enforcement and the government

Defense contractor Leonardo is promoting a new technology called SignalTrace that will package plate cameras with sensors that can scrape unique identifiers tied to your smart devices and make that data available to law enforcement.

A recent report by 404 Media dives into the objective of SignalTrace and how it's being marketed to authorities. Police, border security, and other government agencies already comprise Leonardo's customer base, and with this technology, those clients seek to correlate footage from these cameras to phones, tablets, wearables, AirTags, and, naturally, the electronics inside cars themselves.

If SignalTrace can pick up your Bluetooth headphones, you can be damn sure it'll also be looking out for your vehicle's 5G hotspot, infotainment system, and even its tire pressure monitoring sensors. Hell, the company includes pet microchips as a potential entry point to tracking.

What could possibly go wrong? Faraday bags and paper maps anyone?

Niche YouTube Channel of the Week

Tonight's feature is SuperfastMatt. Matt is building a land speed race car in his garage that he drives at El Mirage and Bonneville. 635k+ subscribers and videos that often exceed a million views each. His videos are very well written descriptions of his adventures and projects. He has an automotive engineering background which equips him with technical knowledge and ability to design and build things. No artificial drama. He explains things very well and has a wonderfully dry sense of humor.

The videos are well done and thoughtful but not fancy. No highly polished graphics or editing. No clickbait. (You will notice a common theme in YouTube channels that get featured here.)

I think that blaster was the one that originally recommended following SuperfastMatt, so hat tip to blaster for the recommendation.
