The FBI Raids the Home and Offices of the Virginia State Senator Pro Tempore Louise Lucas on Suspicions of Corruption

Were there any signs she might be involved in crime or corruption? Well, she owns a string of pot dispensaries.

Oh, and she's a black female Democrat with a triple layer of Anti-Accountability Armor.

So no, no signs at all.

Selling legalized weed -- which she campaigned for and voted for as a senator -- wasn't enough.

She also sold illegal weed.

The NYT:

"Two people familiar with the case said the search was related to an investigation opened during the Biden administration that has continued, examining possible corruption and bribery related to marijuana dispensary businesses."

I wonder if JackStraw knows her. He enjoys the Wacky Weed so he is probably best friends with the so-called "420 Grandma." All these Potties have each other on speed-dial.

FBI agents--armed with multiple federal search warrants signed by a judge--are raiding the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, the Democratic powerhouse, first Black woman in that role, Finance Committee chair, and architect of the state's aggressive 10-1 redistricting map. Federal sources tie it to a major corruption investigation. The warrants extend next door... to the Cannabis Outlet she co-owns--the very dispensary this self-proclaimed "420 Grandma" championed while co-sponsoring legalization and blurring the lines between legislator and cannabis entrepreneur.

Lucas, a close ally of CIA plant Gov. Abigail Spanberger and a force in Virginia politics since 1992, once dismissed U.S. Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner as "cucks in the corner" while engineering her party's electoral firewall. Irony doesn't get more poetic. Power's intoxicating brew--redistricting dominance, business interests in cannabis (with past reports of mislabeled high-THC products), and care facilities--now meets the cold scrutiny of federal law enforcement.

"Care facilities"? Oh no-- isn't that Democrats' favorite vehicle for pillaging the public funds?

And indeed, not only does this illicit drug dealer own pot stores, she also runs a facility for the mentally retarded.

And she just happens to be in charge of regulating her own easily-abused business.

And, get this, she proposed and then voted for a special payment bump for her own business.

But Lucas presents the Senate with an issue. The close alignment of her private business and her public obligations and authorities raises issues of public perception and Senate integrity.

For 28 years, she has operated a business, Lucas Lodge LLC, that provides Medicaid-funded services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

She serves and has served for years on two committees that are completely intertwined with her business:

The Senate Committee on Education and Healthcare (since 1994) oversees the regulator of her business, the Department of Behavioral Health and Disability Services (DBHDS), and the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), also known as Virginia Medicaid, and writes the laws with which Lucas Lodge must comply. The Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations (since 2008 ), of which she is now chair, funds the operations of both agencies and Virginia Medicaid, which, as indicated earlier, pays Lucas Lodge for services.

The situation remains, at best, awkward for the Senate. It just got worse.

This year, Sen. Lucas is the patron of the Senate Budget Bill (SB-30), which amended the baseline budget submitted by Gov. Youngkin. Item 291 #4s in that bill, Developmental Disability Waiver Rates for Selected Services, will specifically increase Lucas Lodge's Medicaid payments above the baseline. Sen. Lucas's budget bill passed her committee and the Senate floor.

SB 30 will be the starting point for the Senate in the upcoming Special Session negotiations that she will lead.

We'll see what happens.

Although people are talking mostly about her pot business, I bet the more serious corruption charges will involve pilfering Medicaid money. It's the Democrats' main business at this point.
