Unexpectedly, January Job Creation Numbers Double Expectations
In January, we created 172,000 non-farm jobs while eliminating 42,000 government jobs.
The stats subtract that 42,000 from the 172,000 to say we created 130,000 net jobs, but to me... um, I feel like adding those "lost" jobs into the "created" column because we want to reduce government "employment." It's a waste that drags down the productive sector of the economy.
BTW, "Biden's Miracle Economy" counted on an exploding government sector to make job "growth" look good in the statistics.
Oh, and most of the non-government jobs "created" went to literal foreigners.
January’s jobs report didn’t just beat expectations — it smashed them.
New data released Wednesday and highlighted by the White House shows private-sector hiring roaring past forecasts, wages climbing, and federal payrolls shrinking to levels not seen since the 1960s -- a combination the administration says underscores the defining traits of President Trump’s second-term economy: more workers in productive industries, fewer in government.
The economy added 172,000 private-sector jobs in January while shedding 42,000 government positions, pushing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%. Overall nonfarm job growth came in at 130,000 — more than double the projections from many economists surveyed ahead of the release. The strength was concentrated squarely in the private sector, particularly construction, where employment jumped by 33,000 jobs. Of those, 25,000 were in nonresidential specialty trades -- the largest monthly gain in five years -- as factory projects, energy investments, and data center construction continue accelerating.
Since the start of Trump’s second term, the White House says 615,000 private-sector jobs have been added, while federal employment has fallen to its lowest level since 1966 --and to the smallest share of the total workforce in recorded history. The contrast is deliberate: expansion driven by builders, manufacturers, and tradesmen rather than by bureaucratic growth in Washington.
Paychecks are moving in the right direction as well. Average weekly earnings for private-sector workers rose 0.7% in January alone. Since Trump returned to office, average weekly earnings have increased 4.3%, with hourly earnings up 3.7%. Prime-age labor force participation has climbed to its highest level since 2001, suggesting more Americans in their core working years are reentering the job market.
Now that Biden has been thrown out of office and is despised by the Democrat Party as well as all patriotic Americans, BLS no longer feels the need to pretend he created a lot of jobs. They continue "revising" his job numbers downward.
Perhaps most politically consequential were the revisions to prior data. According to the White House, updated figures show job growth during the final two years of the Biden administration was overstated by 1.9 million jobs from initial releases to current estimates.
