Speaking Sunday on Fox News' "The Big Weekend Show," Shirley said the red flags were impossible to miss. "It's so obvious that a kindergartner could figure out that there is fraud going on," he said, adding that some reporters may shy away from similar investigations out of fear of being branded "Islamophobic" or "racist." "Fraud is fraud," Shirley said. "We work too hard just to be paying taxes and enabling this to be happening."

The backlash against Walz spread quickly over the weekend, with prominent conservatives amplifying the allegations. Vice President JD Vance praised Shirley's work, while Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk also weighed in publicly. On Sunday, the White House reposted a message from Education Secretary Linda McMahon calling the alleged daycare fraud a "breathtaking failure" that occurred on Walz's watch.
