The Morning Rant: Immigration? No Thanks

At what population density do immigrants retain their original culture, and have the ability to reject the culture of their "adopted" country?

If a small number of immigrants show up in a typical American city, they will be swamped by the tremendous cultural pressure of America. Some of their neighbors might be immigrants, but not from their home country. Their employers might be Americans, their children's teachers will probably be Americans, the advertisements they see, the music they hear, the food they see in most markets, all will be of their new country, or of immigrants from different countries and possibly radically different cultures.

But at some speed and density, the new immigrants will be able to recreate some of the conditions from their origin. If there are 50 people from country X, no ethnic food store will emerge to satisfy their demand for fried crickets or sheep's eyeballs or goat brains or.... But if 10,000 of them descend onto a neighborhood, then the demand can and will be satisfied. And not just food. Clothing, education, music, advertisements, religion, and on and on. Density and speed of the immigration will overwhelm even the power of American culture to assimilate.

And that is what happens when we prioritize a particular people for immigration to America. Somalia on the Mississippi exists because the desire to create a monolithic sub-culture that is insulated from the now defunct "Melting Pot," and can be manipulated for political ends, was far more important than the idyllic vision of vibrant immigrants enriching America while embracing our culture and political philosophy. Dearborn and Paterson exist because we have allowed our political class to create the conditions necessary for a permanent alien presence in America that conveniently votes for them!

That we have allowed these cultures to bring with them savagery, and even worse, an unadulterated contempt for everything that America and American Exceptionalism stands for is trivial to our political elites in comparison to winning the next election.

One of the most important structural changes that made these huge concentrations possible was the creation of the welfare state by the Democrats in the 1960s, ably and vilely led by the execrable Lyndon Baines Johnson. No longer did economics drive the desire to leave the inner city ghettos where most immigrants began their lives in America. Uncle Sugar made sure that they could remain with their fellow immigrants...forever! Section 8 housing, government housing, generous welfare payments, and other massive redistributionist policies allowed oceans of American tax dollars to flow into these areas, so that the voting blocs grew, but their morphing into Americans never happened.
