"I'm Not Done:" Kamala Harris Threatens to Run for President Again

I've said a bunch of times that I don't think she really wants to run for office again.

I think the play here is extortion: Give me my own Harris-branded Clinton Global Initiative grift and I'll go away. If not, I'm running.

Speaking as a black and queer woman, I say, You go girl. You secure that bag.

Kamala Harris suggested this weekend that she isn't done with politics and could mount another bid for the presidency in 2028. Speaking to the BBC's "Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg," the former vice president said her career in public service is far from over. "I am not done. I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it's in my bones," Harris told the program. She brushed aside polls showing her trailing fellow Democrat Gavin Newsom, saying, "If I listened to polls, I would have not run for my first office, or my second office -- and I certainly wouldn't be sitting here."

Her remarks come as new polling continues to show Harris among the least popular national Democrats. Political analyst Lakshya Jain reported last week that 54 percent of Americans hold a somewhat or very unfavorable view of her -- one of the highest negatives in the party. Despite the numbers, Harris used the interview to reprise her failed 2024 campaign message, painting President Donald Trump as an authoritarian and accusing his administration of "weaponizing" federal agencies against political opponents. She even claimed, without evidence, that Trump was involved in ABC's suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after the network confirmed the comedian fabricated facts about Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's assassination.

"You look at what has happened in terms of how he has weaponized, for example, federal agencies going around after political satirists," Harris said. "His skin is so thin he couldn't endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organization in the process." She also accused Trump of turning the Department of Justice into a political tool, declaring, "He said he would weaponize the Department of Justice -- and he has done exactly that."

But he's claiming he was raised by a single mother, always wondering where his next slice of Wonder Bread would come from.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom's characterizations of his humble origins are raising eyebrows, given his family's ties to the late billionaire heir Gordon Getty.

During a recent appearance on the "All The Smoke" podcast, Newsom (D) recounted how his mother, who divorced from his father when he was young, hustled when he was growing up.

"My mom was 19, pregnant and divorced a few years later, with two kids," he said on the podcast. "Came from no money and just hustled. You know, worked hard, grinding every single day. Two and a half jobs, no bulls--."

"We had roommates all the time because she couldn't afford the rent," he continued. "...It was also about paying the bills, man. It was just like hustling and and so I was out there, kind of raising myself, turning on the TV, just getting obsessed. I was sitting there with the Wonder Bread...the macaroni and cheese."

Throughout his career, Newsom has told similar hardscrabble stories implying that he grew up in poverty or in the lower echelons of the middle class, seeking to be more relatable to voters.

Over the summer, for example, he claimed to have slept on the couch and that his sister slept in a hallway because his mother had to rent out the spare bedroom.

But skeptics have pointed out that Newsom's late father, William, a former associate justice on the California Court of Appeals, served as a hifalutin attorney for Getty's billion-dollar fortune.
