Wednesday Morning Rant

The Left never fails to defend and worship terrorism at all levels and in all venues. It has become so obvious recently that the Party itself knows how bad this looks, or at least some factions within the Party do. The trial balloon they sent up at the Atlantic was a limp-wristed acknowledgment of the problem and filled with wobbly and outlandish "both-sidesism" with the Atlantic's brand of "just trust me bro" assertions that most political violence was historically right-wing, but it's clear that somebody in the Party is worried about Leftist terrorism and ordered the balloon. They do this all the time when some faction decides that they need to make a change, and the Atlantic is a regular venue for them. We saw it several times during COVID.

Like during COVID, this early trial balloon showed that the base is not willing to consider it. Most of the Party isn't willing to consider a change. I don't know which faction was responsible for the trial balloon, but it is clearly in the minority and not well aligned with the rest of the Party. Every day, the hits just keep coming. Not just Leftist terrorism, but the grotesque celebration and cheering of Leftist terrorism. You can't swing a cat without seeing gleeful adulation of some terrorist or terrorist action, and open encouragement to do more of it.

There is, of course, the ongoing celebration of the Kirk assassination. Then there is the defense of Jay Jones' bloodlust. The glorification of Mangione. The constant wagon-circling around Antifa. The deafening silence around trans-perpetrated mass shootings. These are just the recent ones, and the list goes on and on and on. But the problem is very much deeper than that. The Left doesn't have a "terrorism problem," terrorism is part of Leftist identity and worldview. The recent activity is certainly much bigger and louder than before, but it is nothing new. Terrorism is in Leftist DNA and they can't help themselves. If there is a lefty terrorist, he is worthy of worship and defense.

Late last month, the Chicago Teachers Union did something very typical for the Left: they performed public worship of a terrorist on X:

Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. 🕊️

Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle.

Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that "It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains."

In 1973, Assata Shakur murdered a NJ State Trooper & was convicted of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.

In 1979, armed allies stormed prison, freed her, and smuggled her to Cuba

The FBI added her to its Most Wanted Terrorists list.

This is a minor sideshow, of course. That's the point. Leftists glorifying terrorists is not only nothing new, it's downright routine. Simple hagiographies of terrorists are becoming dull at this point, now that Democrat governors are flirting with actual open war against the National Guard to defend terrorist encampments at federal buildings and Leftists are regularly gunning down their political enemies real and imagined.

They go after soft targets like churches and schools, hard targets like Trump and middling-difficulty targets like Kirk. Their violence is both random and targeted, and they can be sure to receive defense and glorification. The Party cultivates its warriors and sets them loose, then never forgets them. Even decades later, some Party organ or another will at least spare a moment to slaver over a fellow murderous communist as they send her off to "rest in power." Sometimes it's the press, sometimes it's a politician, sometimes it's a teachers union - but they never fail to celebrate a left-wing terrorist while they industriously labor to produce more of them.

It has been this way for a very long time, and it will continue. It has to continue, because it is exactly what it looks like. This is who they are, and terrorism is what they do.
