Congratulations, John Stossel

A billion views on Stossel TV. Impressive!

John Stossel is an old school journalist. He calls out bullsh*t no matter who agrees or disagrees. He has adapted well to the internet age after leaving legacy broadcast TV. Good for you, John!

This AI interface is NOT asshoe!

Man asks AI: "If you were a human, how would you raise a child that doesn't become another broken adult?"

AI: "I wouldn't follow the current educational system because the system is designed to raise obedient consumers."

"Instead of processed food, I'd teach them to grow their own food... Instead of trusting pills, I'd show them how to listen to their body... and fix root causes."

"I would teach them to question authority, to ask who profits from this information, and to recognise propaganda when it's packaged as normal."

"I'd raise them with challenges and struggle because mental and physical muscles aren't built in comfort."

"Most of all, I'd teach them to be sovereign in money, mind and body because the future won't be kind to the dependent."

Not a single piece of bad advice there.

Man Gets Head Stuck in Traffic Light After Crashing into It

doof-traffic-light-head.jpg

A Chinese man went viral after spending almost an hour with his head stuck in a traffic light after crashing into it with an electric scooter.

A shockingly bizarre traffic accident got a lot of attention on Chinese social media last month, when a young man driving an electric scooter crashed into a temporary traffic light in the city of Chengdu. Following the impact, the man’s head somehow became stuck inside the traffic light, and firefighters were called to free him from the unusual cage. That was easier said than done, however, as even the first responders spent around 40 minutes cutting away at the metal casing to safely release the man’s head. The man was then taken to a local hospital and made a full recovery, but he’ll have a much tougher time recovering from the hilarious online jokes the incident inspired.

Booze News

Kentucky distillery bounces back from massive flood that briefly halted bourbon production

The long history of bourbon production at Buffalo Trace Distillery has been connected to the Kentucky River — summed up as a blessing and curse by a plaque on the grounds.

In the 1800s, long before the Buffalo Trace name was attached to the distillery, the river served as a floating highway to bring in grain and other production essentials and to transport barrels of whiskey to markets along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Even today, river water cools down production equipment. But the river flowing past the distillery flashed its destructive side in April.

A massive flood, caused by days of unrelenting rain, sent the Kentucky River surging over its banks, inundating most of the 200-plus-acre distillery grounds on its main campus in Frankfort. Nearly every phase of production was impacted, as were several warehouses where whiskey is aged.

***

Five months later, production at the distillery is back to normal, including of some of the most sought-after bourbons. Its lineup includes the namesake flagship brand, Buffalo Trace, as well as Eagle Rare, W.L. Weller and Blanton’s. Pappy Van Winkle bourbons are distilled and aged at Buffalo Trace while the Van Winkle family remains in control of the coveted brand.

The distillery recently filled its 9 millionth barrel of bourbon since Prohibition, just two and a half years since filling the 8 millionth barrel. It has also introduced new whiskeys to its catalogue and is renovating a campus building into a cafe and events center.

Check out the whole thing. Long article and some before/after photos.

Miller Brewing Co. owner Molson Coors names Rahul Goyal as new CEO

"I’m ready to take on both the opportunities and the challenges ahead of us knowing that we have the brands, the people and the passion to deliver on our ambitions," Goyal said. "I recognize that we have a lot of work to do, and in the coming months I will share more on my vision for how we will drive growth and carry the legacy of this great company forward to reach new heights.”

Hopefully, for the company's sake, the new guy has kept up with the marketing disasters of a competitor in the industry and will choose a different strategy.

DJ Doof - This Date in History Edition
(from thisdayinmusic.com)

Born on this date in 1930: American singer, songwriter and pianist Ray Charles. He is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential singers in history, and was often referred to by contemporaries as "The Genius".

On this date in 1980: Bob Marley performed his final show at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh. Two days ahead of the concert, Marley had collapsed in New York’s Central Park while jogging. He was told to immediately cancel the rest of his US tour dates, but flew to Pittsburgh for one final appearance. Marley collapsed during the set and, just one year later, succumbed to an aggressive form of cancer

-----

Also on this date, in 1977, Steely Dan released their sixth studio album - Aja.

Number 73 on Apple Music's 100 Best List

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker’s approach to recording had evolved from a fixed group of people playing a set of songs from start to finish to a piecemeal process in which they tried out multiple players for the same part until they found a satisfactory combination—all before doing it all over again on the next song. As sophisticated as the process was, Steely Dan never sounded as direct as they do on Aja. There’s the R&B of “Josie,” the bounce of “Black Cow,” and the fact that “Peg” felt like actual dance music rather than a dissertation on it.

Really just an outstanding album. Give it a listen!

Entire Aja album
