Scampydog sent along this helpful sartorial notice for your upscale pet:

pet-outfits-1 sam.jpg

Nowadays, it seems like pets have just as many sartorial options as us humans. From quaint sweaters to frilly dresses, your dog or cat can strut their stuff in style. Japanese company Samurai Age is capitalizing on this pet outfits trend in an offbeat way. They’ve developed samurai armor for pups and felines that transforms them from your easygoing furry friend into your fiercely loyal protector.

To reveal your animal’s warrior spirit, Samurai Age has fashioned their armor after the traditional samurai suit. Their pet costumes mostly avoid head wear, but they do feature sode (rectangular shoulder protection) and dou (large chest plate). Constructed as a single piece, it covers the creature’s back and snaps together between their two front legs.

I'm not sure I like the cat versions. How about you?

April 8, 2024 — I will always remember the date because of the total eclipse of the sun. On that date, in a disused car wash next to a gas station about three blocks from my house, a mother cat was giving birth to a litter of kittens. I knew her. She used to hang out in the park I walked through on the way to the gym. She called out to me on a dark, autumn night. I started bringing food to her. She wouldn’t come up to me, but if I left an open can under the slide in the playground, she would lick it it clean.

Over the winter, we began meeting at a nearby gazebo. I would put down a can of food and wait while she devoured it. Still skittish, she learned to trust and greet me as I approached. By the end of February, I noted a roundness forming in her mid-section. Though not even a year old, she was reproducing. And she grew rounder and rounder as spring came on. I tried to find a cat rescue, but they were all full. So, when I went back the day after the eclipse, she was thin again… and very hungry.

I followed her until I figured out where the babies were. She had pried open a panel on the door of the car wash. Her babies were somewhere inside. I was prepared to bribe the owner of the gas station to let me in and look for them, but a lady at the Humane Society knew him, and convinced him to let us look around inside.

Unfortunately, the inside of the car wash was filled with junk from the gas station. The kittens were somewhere under it, and they were quiet. For the rest of April and May, I spent every Sunday searching in there. I bought a $300 infrared camera to see if I could find them. No dice. As May warmed up, it got humid and sweltering in there. Still, no babies.

Finally, with help from the Human Society, I set cat traps, four of them. I came back in the afternoon to find a spitting mad kitten in one of them. That night, just before bed, and dreading the thought of kittens stuck in traps overnight, I went back. All three traps were full. I was elated. I brought the babies back to my house. They were spicy. Scratching and biting until I bled. And when I caught their mom the next day, she left me with a scar on my thumb I still have.

So, we had four angry, eight week old kittens to tame. They were spicy. Keeping them was out of the question. We already had four cats… two more than the crazy limit. We put them in a large cage in our home office so we would be around them continuously throughout the day. Holding and petting them was out of the question, although a couple of them came around. The real breakthrough was Delectables. Not sure what they put in those cat snacks, but the kittens went wild for them. And they started to calm down.

My sister is a master at cat homing. After teaching school in the same community for 20 years, she knew everyone. And was able to line up homes for all of the babies with people she knew and trusted. I packed the babies into cat carriers, bought boxes of Delectables to ease the transition, and drove them up to Michigan.

So, the babies are almost a year old, and I’ve gotten a few recent pictures from their new families. Aurora, the black and white kitten, has grown into a stunning tuxedo cat. Echo, with the stump of a tail, is beloved by her new family. Wasabi and Foxtrot were taken in together, and their points have come in. All of them have become happy, well-adjusted khets.

And the mom? As soon as she found an open door, she ran back to her car wash. I still see her everyday. She lets me pet her, lets me feed her. I even got a purr out of her one time. I would love to take her home, but she likes her life the way it is.

VTK

Wow! a remarkable story! Thanks for your kind and intelligent actions.

corgi Maggie.jpg

A description of the dog above from a friend with a serious visual disability which requires her to look at things close-up:

She is a Pembroke rough coated Corgi. My great niece in Wyoming and her husband have corgis on their farm. This is one of the puppies that they sold. I told them I fell in love with her and I just have her picture on my iPhone and iPad. I named her Maggie. I don’t have to walk her. I don’t have to clean up after her and I don’t have to take her to the vet or take care of her when she’s sick. I just have to look at her picture which makes me smile

If you start feeling nostalgic, here a link to last week's Pet Thread, the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, March 29. NR Pax introduced us to Hans, our first Stabyhoun, who had recently gone over the Rainbow Bridge. A great pet, among others on the thread.

I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.
