Tuesday Overnight Open Thread - March 11, 2025 [scampydog]

Good evening and Happy Tuesday ONT. Spring is inbound! Change of seasons and change of the times. America is finding its legs again. Thank you for spending some of your Tuesday evening here. Let's get to the ONT.

I am monitoring the emails of a company we recently acquired. The previous owner is fully left and a regular stream of DNC emails come through. They are amusing - not nearly as comical as our DU friend posts, but amusing. Not much for messaging, nothing new in their playbook. Here is a snip from one today (the only one so far that has not asked for money). Best if you read it in Sally Struthers voice.

Will you take a minute to fill out our feedback survey and let us know how you think the DNC should move forward?

Your input, combined with thousands of other Democratic voices nationwide, will play a pivotal role in honing our strategy.

Music festivals?

Plenty to go around every year.

My large venue days are long gone - live music in a small venue is the path these days.

Any of the Horde attend the US Festival back in '83?

Had some US Festival notes in draft for a month or so. Keep circling back to Heavy Metal day and how Triumph blew the lid off. When they took the stage (watching it on TV) - we were laughing at their white pants. It was Heavy Metal day, not White Pants and Milquetoast day. Wrong judgement, Triumph (three man band) was so good live. The Scorpions sounded great and also put on a helluva show.

Some really good nuggets at this link.

The Heavy Metal band lineup was:

Quiet Riot (they used rented instruments)
Motley Crue (did not enjoy)
Ozzy
Judas Priest
Triumph
Scorpions
Van Halen (DLR doing rock star things)

*****

A bit more of Rik Emmett from Triumph - six minutes of guitar. Around the 1:15 mark is pretty fun. Talented guy.

How about some 'cancel culture' eye poking?

A number of authors pulled their books from consideration of the award/competition. Heh.

After dozens of authors had been cut, at least one began complaining about Eriksen's inclusion in the competition based on his numerous blog posts and tweets, which contain comments about immigration and transgenderism that frequently offend the Left. Dozens of people on Bluesky and the SPSFC discord started calling Eriksen a "nazi" for his posts and published some screenshots of them on Reddit along with a summary of the situation at the SPSFC.
"As a science fiction author, I want to concentrate on writing science fiction people will fall in love with, not on passing a purity test whose requirements are only known to the gatekeepers," Ste. Just wrote on X.

ONT of random. Kitchen Style.

Favorite kitchen gadgets? You bet. Here are some not-so-common kitchen items.

Bestest knife, spatula, and/or cutting board? Sure.

Kitchen life would be less pleasant without these two items.

What are your 'cannot live without' kitchen items?

Cute vid. Kids walking home after school theater - one doing the 'chafed' walk.

We are into mid-March. Who is hanging in there with their New Year exercising? The gym here is less crowded (so I'm told).

Huh... Interesting images on the exercise ball.

Cool aircraft paint jobs/liveries.

More paint badassery here.

Polymarkets...

Interesting to look through some of the betting - what the gambling types are thinking.

Who will be named in the Epstein file by June 30th?

How many jobs will DOGE cut in the first six months?
