President Trump Goes to Hollywood

hollywood hugg.jpg

Trump and Newsom share Hollywood hug
after LA fires

Wonder how Newsom felt at that moment?

Yesterday, Friday, was the last business day of the new Trump Presidency, and I was already sort of overwhelmed by everything that he had done. At home, my internet connection was sort if iffy, and I lost the page with my links for the week up until Thursday. Naturally.

On Friday morning, we had an appointment in Fresno and listened to a talk radio station on the way up. A guest they had scheduled for the morning (a congressman, I think - didn't recognize the name) had to re-schedule because he would be traveling with the President to North Carolina and California!

The main conclusion I took from that morning, listening to the banter on the radio, was that the country was becoming divided into (1) people who understood that Donald Trump often presented proposals in terms one might expect if one had read his book The Art of the Deal and (2) people who did not understand this.

Elsewhere (somewhere in my lost links), Walter Kirn referred to the President's statements concerning things like changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America as "chew-bones" to keep the press (and others) busy while he was doing real negotiations.

On our way home, we stopped for lunch at VDH's favorite hometown restaurant and saw about 10 young, competent-looking military types, mostly dressed in black, hanging out in the parking lot. One was wearing a Cal Fire jacket. Don't know who they were, but we had heard on the radio that Fresno would be a staging area for helicopters in case they were needed for the Hughes Fire near Castaic.

There is also a possibility that these young men were connected in some way with this organization:

Newsom's judgment has been weird about a multitude of issues, great and small.

On our way home, we caught President Trump's opening remarks on the radio in his public forum with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass and others concerning the fires. He was quite gracious in his introductions of the people in the meeting. Then came some commentary like this:

Lizzy in an earlier thread:

Clip of Trump confronting Bass about making people wait 18 mos to clear their property

Bass starts interrupting him, claiming it's about safety to wait "we think one week" - - and then Daryl Issa reaches over and takes her mic while Trump responds! Didn't notice that last night - heh.

Second thread:

This week has been unbelievable. I cannot believe all the good things that are happening.

Looks like it was a productive trip for President Trump.

Other Issues

Stephen A Smith stuns the Bill Maher crowd into silence as he articulates how Democrats have no one left fighting for the American people: SAS: "The man was impeached twice, he was convicted on 34 felony counts. The American people still said 'He's closer to normal than what we're seeing on the left.' He's saying 'I kept my promise'

Then you turn around and look at the left and you say 'What promises did you keep?'

What voter can look at the Democrat party and say 'There's a voice for us, somebody who speaks for us, that goes up on Capitol Hill and fights the fights that we want them fighting on our behalf. They didn't do that. That's why their behinds are home, and that man is back in the White House.

He's doing what he said he was going to do."

The American people said 'We'll take the supposed 'felon' over the woman who is telling us men can get pregnant'.

Weekend

Walter Kirn and Matt Taibbi did one of their podcasts at the time of the inauguration. Kirn sort of scared Taibbi, the Free Speech guy, sometimes. Remember that these guys are not exactly conservatives. Kirn's current "X" feed is pretty interesting. Example.

But from earlier in the week, here's the podcast:

Steven Hayward: The Week in Pictures: 100 Hours That Shook the World

The time has come when someone can write a sequel to John Reed’s famous book about the Bolshevik Revolution, Ten Days That Shook the World. The title is obvious: 100 Hours That Shook the World. I could include a longish subtitle, as is the fashion these days with trade book publishing. I suggest: “How Donald Trump Broke Five Decades of Leftist Drift, Crushed the Democratic Party, and Drove Liberals Out of What Little of Their Minds They Had in the First Place.” Strap in and pour yourself a deep mug: this week’s edition is another long epic.
