JT 122522 santa ammo scaled.jpg

Howdy, Y'all! Welcome to the wondrously fabulous Gun Thread! As always, I want to thank all of our regulars for being here week in and week out, and also offer a bigly Gun Thread welcome to any newcomers who may be joining us tonight. Howdy and thank you for stopping by! I hope you find our wacky conversation on the subject of guns 'n shooting both enjoyable and informative. You are always welcome to lurk in the shadows of shame, but I'd like to invite you to jump into the conversation, say howdy, and tell us what kind of shooting you like to do!

Holy Shitballs! How in the ever-loving Hell did it get to be mid-December? Before you know it, we'll be receiving gifts! What's on your Christmas list, guys and gals? Guns? Ammo? Guns and ammo? Please let us know in the comments what you're hoping to find under the tree!

With that, step into the dojo and let's get to the gun stuff below, shall we?

FUNdamentals
Yes, more fundamentals.

Q: But Weasel, I thought we were done with fundamentals!?
A: No. No, we are most definitely not done with fundamentals.

You will focus on fundamentals and like it! This week we take another look at sight alignment.

However, instant expert disqualification due to their wearing a 'smart' watch!

Shoot with your eyes open! A Navy SEAL with an excessively large watch band shows us how.

One eye, two eyes, three eyes - whatever!

Police Trade-Ins
Recently we were discussing Smith & Wesson revolvers and the great values police trade-ins potentially reresent. Here are a couple of reviews.

This looks exactly like the ones I picked up from Bud's Gun Shop.

Cigar of the Week

121524 diogenes La Gloria Cubana scaled.jpg

This week our pal Diogenes scores again with this excellent review of the The La Gloria Cubana, Series R

I have enjoyed this last year smoking my way through the "Sampler Pack" of cigars that Santa brought me last year, and, I hope I have been good enough this year to see a repeat present. (I think I have been.) It is always interesting to find new cigars and among them, some real surprises. The La Gloria Cubana, Series R is one such surprise. But I made a big mistake... more on this in a second. The Cubana was one of those cigars that was also a very good smoke. Very pleasant taste, it was solidly wrapped giving it an even burn and ash. A slight more draw than I am used to but that was OK as that focused my attention on the taste and hearing the leaf burn its way through the leaf. A fine tobacco flavor with a sweet nuttiness in the background. No bitterness or spiciness while providing a very aromatic smoke. The mistake was I as wrapped up in sweaters and coats, sitting on the patio in 35* temperatures and enjoying the cigar with a single malt Aberlour scotch. Oh the things we do for the Horde cigar aficionados. This cigar was built to be enjoyed where it is at least 80 degrees, there is a mild surf hitting the beach and you have a tall fruity drink with one of those umbrellas in it. My bad - an error I won't repeat with this cigar as I will surely be buying some for the future.

Excellent, Diogenes! Thank you!

Here are some different online cigar vendors. You will find they not only carry different brands and different lines from those brands, but also varying selections of vitolas (sizes/shapes) of given lines. It's good to have options, especially if you're looking for a specific cigar.

A note about sources. The brick & mortar/online divide exists with cigars, as with guns, and most consumer products, with respect to price. As with guns - since both are "persecuted industries", basically - I make a conscious effort to source at least some of my cigars from my local store(s). It's a small thing, but the brick & mortar segment for both guns and tobacco are precious, and worth supporting where you can. And if you're lucky enough to have a good cigar store/lounge available, they're often a good social event with many dangerous people of the sort who own scary gunz, or read smart military blogs like this one. -rhomboid

Anyone have others to include? Perhaps a small local roller who makes a cigar you like? Send me your recommendation and a link to the site!
