The picture is real. They're using the tilt-shift technique. I don't remotely understand it but it makes full-size, real-life things like cities and cars look like miniatures. They used it in the intro of BBC's Sherlock series.
... says that it's a technique for manipulating the field of focus so that only a small area is in focus. Our eyes are used to seeing a shallow field of focus when photographing small things, so when we see large things photographed in a shallow field of focus, we interpret those things as small.
The weekend can't come fast enough. Here are my plans.
