THE MORNING RANT: Why Do Intelligent People Continue to Rely on Government Data That is Known to Be False?

I read the financial press and I listen to the “wisdom” of people in places of importance as it relates to business and economic issues. It is beyond perplexing to me how these intelligent credentialed people can be lied to again and again by those in government who produce economic data, yet these same credentialed leaders wait with bated breath for the next round of completely bogus economic reports. They then make critical decisions based on that data, even though there is a near certainty it will be revised to a less favorable report (or simply proven false) once the headlines become stale.

As I have documented on numerous occasions, the inflation rate produced by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics is comically understated. Of course, you don’t need a blogger providing you statistics to figure this out. If you are paying for groceries, insurance, utilities, etc. you are well aware that actual inflation is far in excess of the laughably false 3% rate that the government is reporting. But business and economic leaders eagerly await each new inflation report, even though it will reveal a number much lower than actual. They’re being lied to, and they know they’re being lied to, but they still rely on information that they must know is fraudulent.

Employment data produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics is also fraudulent, with the government habitually publishing favorable numbers regarding jobs and unemployment, then quietly revising them after the initial euphoric headlines.

The government quietly erased 439,000 jobs through November 2023, a closer look at the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows. That means its initial jobs results were inflated by 439,000 positions, and the job market is not as healthy as the government suggests.

Again, people in positions of power and authority are making decisions that are impacted by these jobs reports, despite the fact that there is a pattern of predictable misrepresentation in these reports. I’d be a little comforted if just once I heard a major financial CEO state that while he knows the government data is fraudulent, the pattern of the fraud indicates a certain trend that he finds to be favorable.

In my career, I have spent a lot of time looking at the financial reporting of companies who are clients of mine. Though it’s been infrequent, I have occasionally uncovered some level of fraudulent financial reporting. When this happens, I know that I am about to embark on a painful journey of discovery, in which each false accounting entry ripples throughout the reports, and nothing that was previously relied on can be assumed to be true.

If I observe that my client seems to be having cash flow challenges, and I then take a closer look at its books and realize that a receivable from a customer has been faked, that also means that my client’s revenue and income are falsely overstated. Further, I know that once I dive in deeper, I’ll probably find a lot of other misrepresentations that I had been relying on. What I don’t do is simply hope that the client will provide me another round of falsified financial reporting with rosy results, seeming to make the problem go away.

But what I’ve just described is effectively what our elite business and economic leaders are doing. Despite all the economic lies and fraudulent data that the Bureau of Labor Statistics has spit out, these leaders rejoice each time the latest round of fraudulent inflation and employment data is released. It’s especially alarming how leaders of major financial institutions that would not tolerate falsified financial reporting from their own borrowers are enthusiastically complicit in validating phony government financial reporting.

I am not predicting DOOM! But I do know that making any decision based on falsified reporting is reckless. Even more concerning is that when an entity feels the need to produce fraudulent reporting, it is an almost certainty that it is suppressing important information that it doesn’t want known.

This premise also applies to other governmental reporting, be it climate, or public health, or wherever else the regime is prevaricating in order to advance its power and control.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its data this week to reduce pediatric deaths from COVID-19 by nearly 24%.

The only reliable assumption regarding the pattern of falsified reporting from government agencies is that everything they report is false and intentionally misleading. Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.
