Gun Thread: Third Day After Thanksgiving Edition!

turkey-sandwich 112623 scaled.jpg

Howdy, Y'all! Welcome to the wondrously fabulous Gun Thread! As always, I want to thank all of our regulars for being here week in and week out, and also offer a bigly Gun Thread welcome to any newcomers who may be joining us tonight. Howdy and thank you for stopping by! I hope you find our wacky conversation on the subject of guns 'n shooting both enjoyable and informative. You are always welcome to lurk in the shadows of shame, but I'd like to invite you to jump into the conversation, say howdy, and tell us what kind of shooting you like to do!

Holy Shitballs! How in the ever-loving Hell did it get to be three days after Thanksgiving? I hope everyone had a nice holiday and you have lots of leftover turkey for sammiches.

Q: Weasel, what is your recipe for the perfect turkey sammich?
A: White bread with every single possible nutrient removed at the molecular level, Duke's mayo, turkey (duh) and S & P to taste.

With that, step into the dojo and let's get to the gun stuff below, shall we?

******

A long standing Gun Thread tradition for the Third Day After Thanksgiving Edition has been to wait until the last minute on Sunday to actually write anything and then hastily throw something together to post at 7pm. Not being one to violate a long-standing tradition, tonight you'll be getting a less than robust effort on my part. Apologies in advance.

Guns of the Horde
Well, sort of a gun of the Horde, our pal TRex sends us a mystery gun to talk about!

Visiting friends for Thanksgiving and the attached emerged. It looks like a 6.35mm pocket pistol but we can't figure out who made it or how to translate the marks on the barrel. We can find similar photos on the web but no exact matches of the logo on the grip.

So how about it? Can anyone identify this specimen? How about the proof marks?

Bigly Gun Thread thank you for sending this in, TRex!

Still more Smith & Wesson Model 19!
As you can tell I really like the Model 19. Here is our pal Hickok45 with more 19-3.

Optics
You people seem to like putting optics on everything, so why not an airplane? Here's a vid on aircraft gunsights and how they work. Nice discussion on parallax, too.

Model of 1917

Here's a guy shooting a Model of 1917.

Here is another guy, who is clearly a deviant and also possibly a deranged lunatic, shooting one.

Continental Exhaust Valve Guide Cleaning with McFarlane Reamer
OK, OK. I must get a hundred requests a week for information on exhaust valve guide cleaning with the McFarlane reamer. Not the Needlemyer reamer, but specifically the McFarlane reamer. Well, good news! Here you go.

Cigar of the Week

la-libertad-robusto 112623 scaled.png

This week our we're featuring the La Libertad Robusto from Cigar One. For around $8 each with shipping from Geneva, these are a pretty el bueno dealio. Great construction and a medium to full smoke in a robusto package. Four Weasel thumbs up!

******

Here are some different online cigar vendors. You will find they not only carry different brands and different lines from those brands, but also varying selections of vitolas (sizes/shapes) of given lines. It's good to have options, especially if you're looking for a specific cigar.

Cigarsinternational.com
Cigarpage.com
Famous-smoke.com
Cigarsdaily.com
Neptunecigar.com
Smallbatchcigar.com
Bobalu Cigar Company
Cigarbid.com

A note about sources. The brick & mortar/online divide exists with cigars, as with guns, and most consumer products, with respect to price. As with guns - since both are "persecuted industries", basically - I make a conscious effort to source at least some of my cigars from my local store(s). It's a small thing, but the brick & mortar segment for both guns and tobacco are precious, and worth supporting where you can. And if you're lucky enough to have a good cigar store/lounge available, they're often a good social event with many dangerous people of the sort who own scary gunz, or read smart military blogs like this one. -rhomboid

Anyone have others to include? Perhaps a small local roller who makes a cigar you like? Send me your recommendation and a link to the site!

Please note the new and improved protonmail account gunthread at protonmail dot com. An informal Gun Thread archive can be found HERE. Future expansion plans are in the works for the site Weasel Gun Thread. If you have a question you would like to ask Gun Thread Staff offline, just send us a note and we'll do our best to answer. If you care to share the story of your favorite firearm, send a picture with your nic and tell us what you sadly lost in the tragic canoe accident. If you would like to remain completely anonymous, just say so. Lurkers are always welcome!

That's it for this week - have you been to the range?
