Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden announced a new agreement on Tuesday that they were to combine their efforts on removing migrants, saying they would launch joint deportation flights and other initiatives. The agreement came out of a two-day Nordic nations summit in Copenhagen where the group said they had come to a "strong commitment" to strengthen their cooperation on migrant returns.
As well as working together to get illegal migrants out of their nations and back to their countries of origin, the group also said they would launch a join initiative to help migrants who had left their homes and made it as far as North Africa -- the embarkation point for dangerous smuggler boats across the Mediterranean to Europe -- to go back to their places of origin too. This, the pact says, is a programme of "voluntary repatriation".
The Danish Immigration and Integration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek said at the announcement that Nordic nations must stop migrants from "traveling across our countries and going under the radar of the authorities". He continued: "It is a decisive principle that foreigners without legal residence travel home... we should constantly strive to do better. Both in Denmark, in the other Nordic countries and in the EU. Today's agreement is a step in the right direction."
His opposite number from Finland, Interior Minister Mari Rantanen said: "This cooperation will be supporting our governmental program because it's very concentrated on immigration rules and the returns especially, which have been the weak link in our system".
Tell me about it.
Meanwhile, in Britain, red poppies have been stripped from the Cenotaph (commemorating the dead of war) and replaced with Palestinian flags.
The Breitbart article notes that Denmark has been pushing a harder line on illegal immigration "for years," and has been condemned by the EU and "global rights" (open borders) groups. So the big news here is that four other countries have woken up and are now embracing the "Danish Plan," as I'd like to brand it, because liberals love claiming everything in Europe is so advanced.*
I propose instituting The Danish Plan here in the US.
What they really mean is that the town is now largely Muslim and they don't want to credit any Jews as martyrs.
City officials seem unmoved by this criticism: the name change goes hand in hand with a new concept that also wants to focus on the "diversity" of the children, says Andreas Brohm, the city's mayor. And the name "Anne Frank" no longer fits the new diversity.
That might not be fair. There are only 400 "migrants" in this town. I don't know any Germans, but I've heard -- this is second-hand -- that it does not take much prompting before German will start cursing Jews for causing so many problem for them. So maybe the locals are just taking the opportunity to get rid of a name they didn't like anyway.
See the article for that. More relevant to this post is the shift in German opinion towards its "guests." From ZeroHedge:
Majority Support For Muslim Migration Ban As 3 In 4 Germans Say Newcomers Hate Western Society
Nearly two-thirds of all German citizens want the country's federal government to impose a ban on migration from predominantly Muslim nations, a damning survey has revealed.
Polling conducted by INSA on behalf of the Bild tabloid newspaper showed that 61 percent of respondents now advocate refusing any more migrants from Islamic countries with many explaining they no longer feel safe in their own country and believe an increasing number of new arrivals despise German society.
Below, one of the most bracingly #based declarations from a public intellectual you'll ever see.
His two main points:
1, they do not belong here, they do not contribute to life here, they are threatening law-abiding people and making their lives worse, and I want them gone.
2, if the government does not execute the will of the people on this issue, the people will begin implementing the policy, and it will be messy and brutal.
He says, with regard to #2, "I'm not advocating that, I'm just observing."
Though I would say he is observing in a forward-leaning manner.
* My late friend Mike Flynn -- no not the general, the writer at Breitbart -- tried to get school vouchers branded as "The Danish Plan," because Denmark used that system. It didn't take off. But maybe this time!
