KT sent me that graphic, which of course led to this:
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and laugh forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight the nervaloos
And my response was this:
The ants,
They're my friends,
They're blowing in the wind,
The ants...they are blowing in the wind.
There is nothing quite like hearing someone's unique mishearing of an old standard, then never being able to hear it again without hearing that exact version! I think the best ones come from kids...the younger the better...because their vocabularies aren't developed and they just sort of fill in the blanks with whatever words are handy. Sometimes not even words! Weird sounds work too!
Perhaps that's why kids like songs like "Down By The Bay," by the execrable Raffi?
They can fill in the blanks with whatever they feel like, or just sing along with nonsense words.
Watch the kids in the video...I don't think they are faithful to the version that Raffi is singing, but they sure are enjoying it!
Oh...that song is an old song dating back to the first years of the 20th century. And my sympathies to every parent who has spent years trying to banish it from their consciousness. If I have recreated an earworm that will now drive you absolutely batty, then I have done my work apologize.
Where was I going with this? Oh yeah...back to Mondegreens below the fold!

Except...this isn't exactly a Mondegreen. It is of course an installment of your maniacal desire to make puns out of everything...in theis case cheese. But it has enough genuine Mondegreen flavor that I couldn't resist.
Sweet dreams are made of cheese,
Who am I to dis a Brie,
Feta the world and the cheddar cheese,
Everybody's looking for Stilton . . .

Here are a few that are sort of amusing, but please make up your own...or even admit to some silly ones!
And in case you weren't convinced that the Beatles broke up in the nick of time, here is their newly released song that absolutely should have stayed in some dusty drawer...
