Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom tackled a small boy while playing basketball on his visit to the Beijing Yuying School in China over the weekend.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) showed Newsom on the school’s basketball court getting ready to play a game with students. Once the game began, however, the California governor is recorded tackling one of the students to the ground while attempting to make a shot.

Study: Cost of ‘fueling’ an electric vehicle is equivalent to $17.33 per gallon

(The Center Square) – The complete costs of "fueling" an electric vehicle for 10 years are $17.33 per equivalent gallon of gasoline, a new analysis from the Texas Public Policy Foundation says.

The study authors say the $1.21 cost-per-gallon equivalent of charging a car cited by EV advocates excludes the real costs born by taxpayers for subsidies, utility ratepayers for energy investments, and non-electric vehicle owners for mandate-and-environmental-credit-driven higher vehicle costs, which they say total $48,698 per EV. Those costs must be included when comparing fueling costs of EVs and traditional gas-powered vehicles, TPPF maintains.

Even if the true cost to recharge an EV was about the price of gas, I still wouldn't buy an EV. If I lived in the suburbs and didn't go adventuring, it might be a choice.

Auto execs are coming clean: EVs aren't working

At earnings this week, several auto execs pulled back on EV targets.

Dealers have been warning of slowing EV demand for months.

"This is a pretty brutal space," Mercedes-Benz's CFO said this week.

With signs of growing inventory and slowing sales, auto industry executives admitted this week that their ambitious electric vehicle plans are in jeopardy, at least in the near term.

Several C-Suite leaders at some of the biggest carmakers voiced fresh unease about the electric car market's growth as concerns over the viability of these vehicles put their multi-billion-dollar electrification strategies at risk.

Among those hand-wringing is GM's Mary Barra, historically one of the automotive industry's most bullish CEOs on the future of electric vehicles. GM has been an early-mover in the electric car market, selling the Chevrolet Bolt for seven years and making bold claims about a fully electric future for the company long before its competitors got on board.
