Food Thread: I'm Hungry. What's For Dinner?

IMG_6150.jpg

(A Mystery Click? How Awesome!)

Well this is week two of CBD's escape from the AoSHQ. After today's Food Thread episode I bet he will be back next week.

I believe every normal human being has arrived at home and has asked "What's for dinner?" And then realized there wasn't anything on the menu, food in the frig or something wasn't pulled.

Since my tax exemptions fled my jurisdiction, we don't have that happen too often at Casa Misanthrope. Although it does happen on occasion.

So you ask, what does today's opening photo have to do with a quick and hearty meal. Not much is faster and easier than some scrabbled eggs, home cured/smoked bacon and some toast or pancakes.

We enjoy breakfast supper. It's quick. It's easy. Bacon is handy. We always have eggs, bread, pancake mix and maple syrup on hand. Most importantly, it's just tasty!

So the last time I smoked bacon I smoked the following.

(Pork Tenderloin)

Now you are probably scratching your heads. Are you wondering what is so quick about this?

First of all the rub is wonderful. It's from Hrothgar's Pork Chop recipe which can be found here.

We slice up the tenderloin and package accordingly for meals of pulled smoked BBQ'd sammiches, pork tenderloin tacos and other assorted south of the border meals. The possibilities are endless.

Another thing we cook up in big quantities are bratwurst on the grill. They are great reheated even after freezing.

Something about a cold dark winter evening and enjoying a brat or three with some baked beans and kettle cooked potato chips.

It's October. So I believe I am contractually obligated to give you some sort of pumpkin recipe thingy........ Yes boys and girls, let's add pumpkin to Mac & Cheese. Because.

This One-Pot Pumpkin Mac and Cheese Is a Weeknight Wonder
Thanks to some clever pantry moves, this cozy dinner is ready in no time.

Every year, without fail, fall arrives without warning: Suddenly, you walk outside and the hot, humid air has turned nippy, and the cravings for comfort foods, soups, and pumpkin-flavored everything creep in. But the realities of life also change with the season, and the back-to-school bustle combined with the looming stresses of the holidays and shorter days makes spending time in the kitchen a luxury. That doesn’t mean cooking cozy fall comfort foods can’t be a weeknight affair, and that’s where this one-pan rouxless pumpkin mac and cheese comes in handy.

Well, it is quick. So I guess this really does fall into today's general theme of quicky meals.

Continuing along with quick ideas. Still in a bind? I searched "Quick Meal Ideas" and this one and 82 bazillion sites came up.

If You're Stuck In A Meal Prep Rut, These 18 Meal Prep Ideas Are Guaranteed To Shake Things Up

PSA: Meal prep can (and should) be better than bland chicken and veggies.

I like using our slow cooker. I just don't feel comfortable leaving any type of appliance such as this operate without my presence.

And if these quick ideas aren't clicking with you. There is always the "Fast Food" experience. My preference is Culver's, a Wisconsin Classic!!!!

Sometimes my job takes me on overnight travels. I grabbed this the last time I was out overnight. Chicken sammich, mashed taters and cole slaw with a beverage. Made to order, brought to my table or booth by a friendly worker. No complaints here.

My Father never told me why I had to eat so much damn Shredded Wheat. And why he enjoyed Pabst Blue Ribbon and it's cheap bastard child, Red, White & Blue.

5 Food Items That Were Preposterously Advertised to Build Muscles

There’s something truly magical about the free-for-all that typified the pre-scientific era of nutrition. Food producers were able to make absolutely fantastical claims about the nutrient benefits of their products without having to provide a shred of evidence to verify those claims.

As such, in an era that roughly overlapped with the Theodore Roosevelt presidency — when the virtues of maintaining physical might were promoted from the White House on down — several food manufacturers proffered unchecked claims about capabilities of their products to build bountiful muscles for their consumers.

Thank you for not throwing your rotted store bought tomatoes at me while filling in for Chef Dildo. And thank you CBD for letting me sit in your chair the past two Sundays. I appreciate the opportunity and challenge.

Until next Sunday October 15, 2023 keep shaking and/or stirring your Manhattans. What would a Jersey guy know about Manhattan?

Don't forget to add that maple syrup to French Toast or anything else you want. The maple syrup ranchers need all of the financial assistance they can get.
