Joe Biden's Approval Rating Is Below 40%, and Half of All Democrat Primary Voters Say They Want a Different Candidate

They're not buying this "A Father's Love" crap, eh?

President Joe Biden's favorability rating remains low while half of Democratic primary voters say their party should nominate someone else as the 2024 presidential candidate, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Even though nearly two-thirds of Democratic primary voters, 64%, say they plan on voting for Biden, 50% said the party should nominate a different person for the 2024 presidential election, according to a New York Times/Siena College Poll.

Just 45% of Democratic voters said the 80-year-old commander-in-chief should be renominated. This is up from July 2022, when just 26% of voters said Biden should be renominated.

Additionally, Biden's disapproval rating, which is up from last year, still remains higher than his approval rating. While 39% of registered voters approve of the way Biden is handling his job as president, 54% disapprove. In July 2022, the Times/Siena poll found his approval rating was at 33% while 60% disapproved.

...

When asked about his low approval rating earlier this year after announcing his 2024 presidential campaign, Biden said: "Everybody running for reelection at this time has been in the same position. There's nothing new about that."

However, his approval rating is lower than all other modern presidents by this point in their term other than Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Trump, the latter two having lost their reelection bids.

Democrat pollster Doug Schoen says that Biden's message just isn't working.

As they say in French: d'uh.

"That Times poll had Biden's approval at 39%, which, you know, I've been at this business a long time, that is very low, that's warning time," Doug Schoen, who worked for former President Bill Clinton, told Fox News host Martha MacCallum. "That means that his message is just not working."

D'uh, mec. Beaucoups d'uh.

Axios reports, brilliantly, that the indictments timed to drown out negative coverage of Biden did in fact drown out negative coverage of Biden.

Former President Trump's bombshell, four-count indictment over his attempt to overturn the 2020 election monopolized media and political attention Tuesday evening-- overshadowing a string of not-so-great stories for President Biden.

Why it matters: As his most-likely 2024 challenger faces a growing list of serious, criminal charges, Biden faces his own political battles over his son's business dealings, the border and the U.S. economy.

Driving the news: Nearly simultaneously with the indictment being filed, Fitch Ratings downgraded the U.S. credit rating, citing the country's deteriorating fiscal position and political instability.

The White House was quick to argue that the deterioration occurred under Trump.

"It's clear that extremism by Republican officials--from cheerleading default, to undermining governance and democracy, to seeking to extend deficit-busting tax giveaways for the wealthy and corporations--is a continued threat to our economy," Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Hours before, the Washington Post reported that border officials are again seeing a rise in illegal border crossings after a lull.

This comes as the Biden administration will likely be forced by courts to end a key, restrictive asylum policy next week. Officials have credited the asylum rule for helping keep border numbers at manageable levels in recent months.

All this came one day after a key witness testified to Congress that Hunter Biden sold "the illusion of access" by putting his father on speaker phone with business partners -- adding fuel to GOP's attacks of "influence peddling" by the Biden family even as they struggle to draw a clear line to the president.

And Jack Smith's latest well-timed indictment stopped the Trump-crazed media from talking about Biden? Non! Vraiment!? Quel d'uh!

And despite having the lowest approval rating of all modern presidents, he still... ties Trump.

The new poll also shows that if the 2024 presidential election were held today, Biden would be tied with former President Donald Trump at 43% to 43%.

I know, I know: This poll is fake, but the polls showing Trump with a three point lead are real.
