The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

I grew up in a home in which vaccination was the norm. My grandfather was involved in pediatric vaccine research, and my father was a physician specializing in infectious diseases, so it was axiomatic that vaccines were one of the wonders of the modern world, and resistance to them that wasn't based on solid epidemiological data was akin to astrology or voodoo.

The claimed link between vaccine preservatives (thimerosol) and autism was hugely controversial, based primarily on a discredited paper by Andrew Wakefield whose consequences were significant. It probably lead to a decrease in vaccination rate and attendant increases in measles outbreaks and who knows what else. Most rational people saw the data and were confident that the supposed link was simply nonsense, and the weight of the medical establishment came to bear on the issue, reassuring concerned parents that vaccines were indeed safe.

But...that trust in the science of vaccines has been destroyed in the span of just a few years, and the financial links between big Pharma and the regulatory agencies have been exposed, not to mention the political links between the federal government and Big Pharma that allowed an emerging respiratory virus with serious but manageable effects to become the source of an unprecedented violation of our natural rights.

So forgive me if my first, second and eight-hundredth response to the CDC floating the idea of a yearly Covid vaccine is: F*CK OFF.

CDC likely to recommend annual COVID shot similar to flu, director says

In an interview with Spectrum News, Dr. Mandy Cohen, the new Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that her agency is likely to come out with guidance in the fall that Americans should get an annual COVID-19 booster to protect against the coronavirus. The new recommendation, which the agency is finalizing and is expected to announce in early September, is the first such guidance on how to protect against COVID-19 long-term.

“We’re just on the precipice of that, so I don’t want to get ahead of where our scientists are here and doing that evaluation work, but yes we anticipate that COVID will become similar to flu shots, where it is going to be you get your annual flu shot and you get your annual COVID shot,” Dr. Cohen told Spectrum News at the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta this week.

“We’re not quite there yet, but stay tuned,” Cohen added. “I think within the next couple of weeks, month we’re going to hear more from our experts on COVID shots.”

The destruction of trust in government, in government-sponsored medical research, in government health recommendations (and mandates), in Big Pharma, and the medical establishment can be directly linked to a cascade of lies, obfuscations, manipulations of data, use of emergency powers for political ends, and most of all the obvious discrepancy between what the government/pharma cabal claimed and the evidence right in front of us.

The idea that the CDC has any integrity when it comes to Covid is laughable, and it should call into question their other pronouncements about vaccines and, unfortunately, everything else they do.

We have direct evidence of another catastrophic misstep by the federal government's health establishment: the colossal failure of their dietary recommendations beginning in the 1970s. Take a look at photos from the 1970s of typical American scenes, and compare them to the current day. We are fat, and probably getting fatter, and the government fear-mongering about dietary fat being the root of all evil has a lot to do with it!

The saddest part of this sordid mess is that there are people who will be injured because of their understandable reluctance to believe anything the government says, even though some of their advice is rational, based on solid research, and is backed up by excellent epidemiological data.

It would be tough to mount a convincing argument that we should should listen to the government about anything, much less take their advice about the health of our children!
