New York Times Celebrates: The Wealthy That We Serve Will Pay Less For Luxurious Vacations Because of All the Illegal Aliens Working For Low Wages at Spas and Resorts

Yay!

Neil Munro @NeilMunroDC

NYTimes celebrates lower wages for the hired 'help' that caters & cleans their weekend getaways in the Adirondack hills.
Yes, migration allows clever & comfortable Americans to feel proud as they divorce themselves from the needs of ordinary citizens.

At Breitbart:

Wealthy New Yorkers will get cheaper weekend getaways because President Joe Biden's migration flood is washing away marketplace pressure to raise wages for Americans, says a celebratory article in the New York Times.

"The [extra supply of workers] has been helpful for businesses like the Weekender hotels in the Adirondacks, " reporter Jeanne Smialek wrote on July 24, adding:

The firm's six [legal J-1] visa workers are spread across three of its seven properties, said Keir Weimer, the founder of the company, and are a small but important chunk of its 85-person work force.

The company has also been having an easier time competing for employees in general after a few years of adaptation. Mr. Weimer estimated that pay was up 10 to 15 percent over the past 15 months [when migraton was lower], but said wage growth was beginning to cool.

"We're starting to now get more defined on career-track progression and having wages tied to performance and promotion, rather than just market," he said. "There's definitely less wage pressure than there was a year ago."

The average wage in the area around Old Forge is just $31,844, according to CensusReporter.org.

The New York Times hopes that the flood of illegal workers will put a dent in the hyperinflation unleashed by the profligate spending of the Biden Administration (which they also support, of course):

The article was titled "A Flood of New Workers Has Made the Fed's Job Less Painful. Can It Persist?" The article spotlighted investors' hopes that the wage cuts forced by illegal migration can reduce overall inflation before the top leaders in the Federal Reserve pump up interest rates.

Many investors on Wall Street oppose those interest rate hikes -- and they welcome Biden's inflation-reducing, wage-cutting migration of millions of migrant workers via the nation's borders and airports. The inflow of workers is aided by the government's inflow of short-term visa workers, such as the J-1 and H-2B workers.

Most migrants will hard work for lower wages than needed by American parents. That poverty holds down the portion of inflation that comes from rising wages.

Many businesses favor migration because it allows them to hire cheap and compliant migrants instead of less-desirable American workers, such as former convicts or argumentative workers.

But mainstream Americans and their families have more leverage to win higher wages and better conditions when the federal government reduces migration, as it did under President Donald Trump.

Makes it clear that mass extralegal migration--ie millions--is an essential part of whatever "Bidenomics" is. Reduces inflation at the cost of lowering wages of those at the bottom who most need raises--but that cost is hidden (just as the migrant #s are)

Some additional news gleaned from Ed Driscoll at Instapundit:

Jared Bernstein, member of Biden's Council of Economic Advisors: "One thing we learned in the 1990s was that a surefire way to reconnect the fortunes of working people at all skill levels, immigrant and native-born alike, to the growing economy is to let the job market tighten up. A tight job market pressures employers to boost wage offers to get and keep the workers they need. One equally surefire way to sort-circuit this useful dynamic is to turn on the immigrant spigot every time some group's wages go up."

The nasty yuppies of the broadcast networks are angry that Governor Abbot's buoy-fence on the Rio Grande will keep out illegal aliens and make their four-weeks-per-year vacations marginally more expensive.

Just as we finished up our study looking at the last nine and a half months of border coverage, the broadcast networks began shrieking in disgust at a line of red buoys that Texas Governor Greg Abbott had installed in the Rio Grande. Over their past week their buoy-induced wailing has already eclipsed the airtime given to issues like child labor and drug smuggling since October of 2022.

MRC analysts found that between July 19 and July 26, broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC spent a combined 2056 seconds (34 min, 16 sec) on the buoys across their flagship morning and evening newscasts. Even if we look only at evening newscasts, as our recent study did, we're left with 935 seconds (15 min, 35 sec) -- more than these networks over the last ten months have spent on migrant child labor (807 seconds), illegal crossings from Canada (323 seconds), and drug smuggling (294).

The media hate these buoys for the same reason that they hate any other barrier along our southern border: because they make it harder for illegal aliens to enter the country. It really is that simple.

At the New York Post: China is banking on America's suicidal immigration policy.

Globalization only made China stronger, and it fractured America's social compact, leading to the intense polarization of our politics today.

The highly educated winners of globalization are on one side; abandoned Americans turned to populism, nationalism and Donald Trump.

Overconfidence in immigration-driven demographics will lead to similar upheavals.

The proportion of foreign-born persons in the United States today, some 13.7%, is about as high as it was at the peak of the last great wave of immigration in the early 20th century.

Back then, pressure on immigrants to assimilate was enormous -- and even so, immigration was political dynamite, with voters ultimately so concerned that they elected Republicans who restricted immigration for 40 years, a pause in which assimilation could take root.

Today, however, multiculturalism, rather than assimilation, is the official ideology of at least one of our political parties and almost all our elite institutions.

Public schools, which enforced assimilation a century ago, now teach students to celebrate every kind of identity except the traditional American one.
