Is it time to surrender against recreational drugs? The War on Drugs is a failure.

After 50 Years, the DEA Is Still Losing the War on Drugs
For five decades, the agency has destroyed countless lives while targeting Americans for personal choices and peaceful transactions.

"COCAINE UNIQUELY FITS THE FAST-PACED AMERICAN LIFESTYLE," reads a caption for an exhibit at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Museum in Arlington, Virginia. "The Federal Bureau of Narcotics considered cocaine a nearly defeated drug," it continues. "However, cocaine use rebounded, reaching its highest use level ever at the end of the 20th century." It's an oddly candid observation to find in a place you'd expect to celebrate the federal agency whose mission is to "enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States."

I wonder if the LaBianca family had a nice 4th of July holiday.

July 8 (UPI) -- California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he won't contest a parole granted to former Manson family member and convicted murder Leslie Van Houten.

Van Houten was convicted of the 1969 of killing of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in Los Angeles and sentenced to death two years later. The death sentence was commuted to life in prison after California's Supreme Court ruled the death penalty was unconstitutional in the 1972 People V. Anderson case.

Mixed marriages can be difficult. Even more so when children are involved.

DEAR JANE: I've secretly been feeding my vegan toddler meat behind my wife's back - but she found out and is now threatening to DIVORCE me

When our daughter was born, my wife insisted that we also raise her as a vegan, which I was really worried about to be honest, but I agreed because I wanted to give the mother of my child anything she wanted at that point!

Cut to four years later and my daughter is thriving. She loves food, has a great appetite just like her dad, and it's something that I've really enjoyed sharing with her.

Born on this day: July 9,1946 - Bon Scott
British singer Bon Scott (Ronald Belford Scott), with Australian rock band AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980. He was brought up in Kirriemuir, Scotland before moving to Melbourne, Australia, with his family in 1952 at the age of six. Having arrived from 'Bonnie Scotland', he was dubbed 'Bon', and the nickname stuck. After a night of heavy drinking, Scott was found dead in the backseat of a friend's car in South London on 19 February 1980, the cause of death being subsequently listed as ’acute alcohol poisoning'. via thisdayinmusic.com

It is difficult to soar with eagles when you work with turkeys. You may ask: Why is this in The ONT? It's always nice to see that you and I are not alone in the competence department at our respective jobs. Plus, it is a fun read.

True Detective Stories
You may remember the Idiot Arrogant Cop who just got on the job, and claimed she was a “professional.” She is the C-word who brought up a robbery report without a victim, then walked out the door. I guess from here on out, I’ll call her Trudy Wiegel (from Reno 911).

This was a banner week for “the professional.”

On Wednesday, Trudy brought in a job where a man signed a lease for a residence, but the lease was fraudulent. Trudy brought the victim and the actual owner to the division. She walks into the division and stops at my desk. The male is still with her. Annoyed, I remind her – for about the fifteenth time – that victims have to be placed into the hallway.

He may not be Employee of The Month. But on the bright side: Genius Award Winner.

JULY 5--The Big Gulp was on the other foot Sunday night in Florida, where a 7-Eleven worker was arrested for striking a female customer in the head with a large cup of lemonade.

Cops allege that clerk Miles Taz Jenkins, 35, “got frustrated with a customer over payment” and “threw a Big Gulp filled with lemonade” at the woman.

The incident was witnessed by three other customers, according to a criminal complaint, and Jenkins reportedly “made spontaneous statements admitting to striking” victim Tina Warren with the drink.
