Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Did all of our pets make it through the fireworks?

K.T.:

Sadly, our good and faithful Yorkie, Sparky, made his final trip to the
vet at the end of June after a long life with us (16 years). Here he is
in a pic from several years ago, being chauffeured around on a bike
trail by the missus. She is pretty broken up about it yet.

He was a GOOD dog.

Thanks,

The Neon Madman

So sorry that you and your wife have lost Sparkie. What a good dog. What a sweet photo. Please pass on our condolences to your wife.

K.T.:

Greetings from Florida! Big AoS Pet Thread fans here and couldn't imagine our weekends without reading all the fine submissions. We've got one ourselves this week.

Me and the wife have probably had 35+ cats in our lives (a few for her before we met 36 years ago, and MANY since we got married). All have distinct personalities and backgrounds, but we recently lost a very sweet, precious cat named Ana, aka Empress Anastasia, Ana Banana, Nanner, and many other goofy names.

She was rescued by a wonderful young woman/cat rescuer from near a dumpster behind an Italian restaurant during the Kung Flu lockdowns when she went to get some takeout. Poor thing was starving, had lots of injuries from other cats, but was so sweet and was crying out for someone to rescue her. One of her eyes was messed up pretty bad as well. Took her in to get her TNVR'ed (where they spay and clip an ear to show they have been treated) only to find out, after the ear clipping, that she'd already been spayed. She was someone's pet - who knows how she ended up on the streets. We fostered her for a while, trying to save her eye (it was too far gone and had to be removed) and decided to adopt her since she and I fell in love with each other.

She was MY cat (or I should say, I was HER human!) and the other cats knew not to try and sit in my lap or sleep by my head. Quirky, funny, fussy, and quite imperious, she loved nothing more than to sit in my lap, or stay on our porch and watch the world, albeit with just one eye. She was our little Pirate Cat. She also had a most . . . . pitiful affectation - any time we had any food that even hinted at Italian in smell, she went crazy for it - she would not leave me alone and would try to eat pasta, tomato sauce, pizza, you name it! Must have been from what that was what she was surviving on in the dumpster, poor thing.

We discovered later in our time with her that she loved "walkabout" where she one day just ran out the porch door into our fenced yard with my wife and hung out with our chickens. The chickens soon sort of "adopted" her and we called her "the grey chicken" from then on. She never bothered them. She also loved car rides, went camping with us once (she LOVED it), and even allowed us to put a harness on her and take her into the local park and forest for hikes.

Unfortunately after 3 years she developed very aggressive oral cancer and we had to say goodbye to her. She was probably about 8-10 years old when we adopted her. We have ZERO regrets taking her in and I highly encourage everyone out there to take a chance on a non-kitten or puppy if you have a place in your home and heart for a hard-luck story like this. God gave us 3 wonderful (and sometimes frustrating) years with this precious creature and I thank Him for it.

Rest easy, Ana - you will always have a special place in my heart.

Greywolf

Thanks for taking such good care of Ana. Sounds like a cat who was full of personality!

He is photogenic! He comes over for pets as much as food. He seems to think I have a house full of cat food. Hope he decides to become a house cat this fall.

I post as notsothoreau

Those eyes!
