Wednesday Morning Rant [Joe Mannix]
The Difference This Year
As this year's nightmare "Pride Month" draws to a close, it is clear that this year has been unlike prior years. As I have opined before, this year's excesses have been met with increased popular opposition and a fair amount of collateral damage in the world of business. Opposition has broken out in unexpected places like the deep blue Massachusetts and California. This year's "Pride Month" has been a slow-motion disaster of opposition, profit destruction, protest and increasing popular resentment.
What changed? One big change is that "Pride Month" is no longer about gay people. Little to none of the big, public "Pride" stuff is about homosexuality. It's about trans and drag instead. It has completely shifted over the past few years, to the point that homosexuality isn't even really a topic of conversation anymore. It's all about "gender" now, and the advance of gender ideology.
As the movement completed its transition into gender ideology, the recent conflicts started to emerge due to the movement's demand to expand into all things and events, and its demand to include minors. Target wasn't threatened with a boycott because of their "Pride" displays, it was threatened with a boycott because those displays contained products aimed directly at children. Much of the protest activity is a continuation of the growing trend of protests about school actions - schools suppressing information from parents, encouraging trans clubs at school, school libraries carrying deviant pornography, etc. Sports teams are protested due to perverse displays in what used to be family venues.
Yet every time there is a protest or a boycott or anti-"Pride" commentary due to the involvement of children, the response is always the same: those in opposition are conspiracy theorists and bigots. Even when the federal Department of Education publishes a "Toolkit for Creating Inclusive and Nondiscriminatory School Environments for LGBTQI+ Students," it's still just a "conspiracy theory." The "guidance" they provide includes (original emphases):
Facilitating opportunities for students to find support from peers, teachers, and staff, such as student-led organizations, and identifying supportive spaces on campus. For example, teachers and administrators can help students establish a Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) to help build a more inclusive school environment.
But nah, it's all a conspiracy theory. We're all insane or misinformed by hateful elements. None of this is exactly what they're openly telling us it is.
Even the mainstream press like NBC News (h/t Lizzy) acknowledges the problem but still calls it a right-wing hit job:
The "coming for your children" chant has been used for years at Pride events, according to longtime march attendees and gay rights activists, who said it's one of many provocative expressions used to regain control of slurs against LGBTQ people. And in this case, they said, right-wing activists are jumping on a single video to weaponize an out-of-context remark to further stigmatize the queer community.
You lack context. It's a joke. It's embracing and subverting a hateful stereotype. Ignore your lying eyes and trust us. All this stuff with "Pride" youth targeting, public school activity, government policy, etc. is just your imagination. We don't mean it. Don't be such a hater.
But those brush-offs don't work so well anymore. That's what's different this year.
