The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
We are long past the time in which we have the luxury of a hands-off approach to societal dislocation and decay. For generations, the conservative movement in America was reactive...and damned slow at that. So what if the big cities were doing crazy stuff? Our towns and villages were sane, so it didn't really matter.
Except it did. The Folsom Street Fair has moved from San Francisco to our main streets. Richard Raskin (Renée Richards) is no longer an oddity...he is playing tennis against your daughters. NAMBLA has advocates in your state legislatures. Segregation is back, and it's being embraced.
Simply returning to the status quo ante cultura bellum requires generations of committed legislatures, governors and mayors who are willing to pull our country back from the precipice.
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson signed a law on Wednesday banning gender-transitioning procedures for minors and for adults in the state correction system.
The Missouri Save Adolescents from Experimentation “SAFE” Act prohibits clinicians from performing gender transition surgeries on minors as well as prescribing cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers for the process of medically transitioning.
“We support everyone's right to his or her own pursuit of happiness; however, we must protect children from making life-altering decisions that they could come to regret in adulthood once they have physically and emotionally matured,” Parson tweeted.
Parson also signed a bill that requires all schools to separate sports based upon the biological distinction of male and female, threatening to remove state financial support if individual institutions do not comply.
"In Missouri, we support real fairness, not injustice disguised as social righteousness," he said.
It is no longer enough to yell "Stop!." But that reveals the fundamental difference between progressivism/socialism and the normal, rational, traditional conservative view of the world.
There is an end point to conservative desires for our society. Self determination, freedom from government interference, respect for cultural traditions, etc.
The progressive/socialist movement has no such end points. They push culture and government in one direction only, and that is...more! More government control, more cultural relativeness, more destruction of traditional society and is norms of behavior, more dependence on government. It goes on and on without any concrete goal.
"More" is an easy thing to explain to the masses who are emotionally disposed to wanting it, especially since it can be manipulated and tailored for every audience. The conservative political and cultural philosophy is the antithesis of "more," and relies on the rapidly vanishing concepts of self determination and self reliance. Those aren't immediately appealing to a populace that has been carefully prepared by the fruits of the long march through the academic institutions.
So when "less" becomes the law somewhere in America, we must applaud it, nurture it, support it, and most of all, bring it to our own states and cities and towns. And if that means embracing the strange bedfellows of the loyal Democrat voters in Armenian neighborhoods in Southern California, or Muslims in Montgomery County, MD, then embrace we must.
