The Quotes of The Day

Quote I
"What are the Balkans?" William Jennings Bryan (1860 - 1925), future Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson, 1908

Quote II

"It would be the irony of fate if my administration had to deal chiefly with foreign affairs." Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924), 28th President of the United States, 1913

Quote III

“And what is it called when you and the speaker of the House deliberately try to interfere in the Jan. 6 prosecutions by lying? It’s called obstruction of justice. Arrest Tucker Carlson. Arrest Kevin McCarthy.” Keith Olberman

I believe he needs to be fitted for a new tinfoil hat.

He may be a few fries short of a Happy Meal. But hey, no regerts.

Man who tattooed his Tesco Clubcard onto his arm has earned just £18 in points

Dean Mayhew, 31, said he got the QR code permanently inked on his arm because he would keep forgetting it.

It’s been eight months since he went public with the tattoo and he still has ‘no regrets’.

The dad-of-three uses the tat twice a day and sends photos to his friends so they can use it too.

But will she vote blue?

Movie star Tilda Swinton told Hollywood to pound sand and praised Texas over COVID protocols during her keynote address at the 2023 South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. She said:

“I’m actually just about to start shooting a picture in Ireland. And I was told, full disclosure, and I’m sure this is being recorded – people in Ireland might hear it – to wear a mask at all times.

“And I’m not wearing a mask because I’m super healthy and I’ve had COVID so many times and I’m so full of antibodies and I have faith. But it’s very nice to see your faces unmasked.

Stacey Abrahams Blob of seaweed headed to Florida.

A bloom of seaweed perhaps larger than any hitherto recorded is headed for Florida. Welcome to the Sargasso Sea!

The thick mat of algae drifts between the Atlantic coast of Africa and the Gulf of Mexico, providing habitat for marine life and absorbing carbon dioxide, but it can also wreak havoc when when it gets closer to shore.

Just because "you" want it to be a hate crime doesn't make it so.

The hysterical reaction to a piece of rope that was described as a “hangman’s noose” which was hanging from a tree outside of a California medical office included “shock, disgust, pain, and anguish,” leading to a hate crime investigation, but once again, it was determined to be a false alarm, the latest in a long series of racially-charged hoaxes.

Kaiser Permanente officials rushed to judgment after the alleged symbol of the bygone racist practice of lynching was spotted at one of its facilities in Gilroy, a city in the San Francisco Bay area, leading to a call to police who were dispatched to the scene, Bay area local news outlet KRON-TV reported last week.

“This alarming discovery caused shock, disgust, pain, and anguish for our staff and physicians in Gilroy and throughout Northern California. A hangman’s noose is a painful and triggering symbol of the history of violence against African Americans in the United States,” the company said in a statement. “Its sight stirs outrage due to bigotry and continues to be a threatening symbol of hatred meant to inflict pain. Investigations are still underway, but we are not waiting for the conclusion of these reviews to acknowledge the trauma this incident has caused.”

Once again I'm happy I drive an old bomb.

There's nothing quite like getting in your car and feeling that something's off, only to realize you've gotten into someone else's car by mistake. Last week, one Tesla owner went even further, when they realized a glitch had seemingly allowed them to not only enter someone else's car but also drive it all over town.

As reported by Global News, immigration consultant Rajesh Randev was in a rush when he went to pick up his white Tesla Model 3 on March 7. He used the Tesla app to open the door, got in the car, and drove away. As he drove to pick up his children from school, he noticed an unfamiliar crack in the windshield and rang his wife to ask what had happened. Randev's wife was unaware of the damage, and he also couldn't find his phone charger. Shortly afterward, he got a concerning text that told him he was driving the wrong car.

Not everyone bitten by a dog deserves it. But most do.

I’m a true dog lover. When asked “What do you want for Christmas?” I have, and always will, respond with: “A puppy”. I point out particularly cute dogs I spot on walks, I greet people’s pets before them, and I — disturbingly, to some — refer to my Pomeranian as “my everything”.

But then something happened that shook my faith in our canine companions.

Last year, I was in a serious e-bike accident, resulting in a traumatic brain injury and fractured skull that I'm still reeling from. A few months later, I was on my way to an ice hockey game. It was my first time going to such an event since my injury; I was stressed, tired, and in pain, so I left an uncharacteristically sincere voice note to my partner attempting to cheer myself up. A few minutes after responding, "It's all going to be great from now on, we're on the up I promise", he got a call saying that instead of meeting at the game, he should go to the hospital.

Brandon makes another run at our guns.

President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order Tuesday aiming to increase the number of background checks to buy guns, promote better and more secure firearms storage, and ensure U.S. law enforcement agencies are getting the most out of a bipartisan gun control law enacted last summer.

The Democrat president plans to unveil his latest efforts at curbing gun violence in a speech from Monterey Park, California, said a senior White House official, who discussed the order ahead of its signing on the condition of anonymity. In January, a gunman stormed a dance hall in the community near Los Angeles and shot 20 people, killing 11, following a Lunar New Year celebration.

Biden's rhetoric has only grown stronger around guns — he calls for banning so-called assault weapons routinely in his speeches — and Democrats didn't push such a vocal anti-gun platform even during the Obama administration, when Biden was vice president. But Biden has been emboldened by the midterms after his regular talk of gun control didn't result in massive losses, and he's expected to continue to push for strong changes as he inches toward a 2024 run, his aides say.

3 hots, a cot and a lover named Bubba for our Genius Award Winner.

A Salt Lake City, Utah man decided he wanted to be sent to federal prison, and his wish came true after he robbed a bank… for one dollar.

Most people would go out of their way to avoid ending up behind bars, but one Utah man actually robbed a bank for only $1 just so he could get arrested and thrown into federal prison.

65-year-old Donald Santacroce just pulled off one of the most bizarre bank robberies in history. He reportedly walked into a Wells Fargo Bank near 300 South Main Street in Salt Lake City on Monday morning and handed over a note to one of the tellers. The piece of paper read “Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1.00 Thank you.” The teller must have thought it was a joke, because they complied with Santacroce’s demand, but also asked him to leave with his $1. Only he told them that he had just robbed the bank and that they should probably call the police. He then sat down in the bank lobby and waited to be arrested…
