Andrew Weismann is getting the call back up to join the majors, maybe?
Nope. They want to make it look slightly more credible than that.

Jack Smith, the man just named Special Prosecutor, will decide whether to indict Trump for the stolen Mar-a-Lago documents and the Jan. 6 insurrection. Smith was a war-crimes prosecutor at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.
No special prosecutor for Hunter Biden, naturally!
Garland admits this is about stopping Trump from running:

AG Garland says that because former Pres. Trump has announced that he’s running for president + the current president has indicated he will most likely run again, "it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel" to investigate Mr. Trump.
The irony here... is that Garland is mucking with the actual peaceful transfer of power to a future elected Trump. Via an investigation into the supposed not peaceful transfer of power from Trump.

The takeaway from this is that Garland just admitted on live television that this is a political investigation.

I'm putting the "Is This Something?" post in draft until people hash this out.
