Quick Hits

At Brandon Falls, Delaware, pilgrims are now staging tableaux vivants (living paintings) of the holy scene when the most popular president in history, St. Joseph of Scranton, blessed the street by nuzzling it with his sacred tween-sniffer:

California lets two huge drug dealers walk away from an arrest with no bail and -- get this! -- they don't bother showing up for trial at all!

Plot twist! You can call California "Rian Johnson" now because your expectations have totally been subverted!

Two accused drug traffickers busted with 150,000 fentanyl pills during a California traffic stop last month failed to show in court Thursday after being released on cashless bail.

Defendants Jose Zendejas, 25, and Benito Madrigal, 19 -- released on their own recognizance less than 24 hours after their arrests with the large stash of illicit drugs -- were scheduled to appear for their arraignments at the Tulare County Courthouse in central California on Thursday morning, but both men failed to show.

The judge called for Zendejas and Madrigal -- both from Washington state -- who were not in court, and the warrant for their arrest continues.

...

Before Thursday, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said he did not expect the defendants to show up. He placed blame on the state's soft-on-crime attitude and so-called criminal justice reform for a policy that allowed the two alleged drug traffickers to go free with nothing but a promise to come to court.

"I didn't learn about the order until it was far too late," Boudreaux previously told Fox News. "I couldn't believe we had 150,00 fentanyl pills -- one of the most dangerous epidemics facing our nation today -- with people in custody that we may potentially be able to impact the future of this type of drug trafficking organization... and we let them go."

...

"The problem is once again the legislature and the state of California are trying to go down some social experiment born on the back of law-abiding citizens," Ward said. "I go out on a limb and say that had these defendants been subject to the million bail that was in place when they were arrested, and they made bail based on that amount, they would have some skin in the game, some financial obligation and motivation to return to court."

Gee you think?

Professor: It's unbearable that white people dominate discussions about climate anxiety. Actually I kinda agree but probably not for the same reasons.

There's a new concern in the relatively new field of so-called "climate anxiety": Those interested in it are very white.

Wired reports this "unbearable whiteness" caused a "growing discomfort" in California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt Professor Sarah Ray (who's white, by the way) early in 2021, so much so that she wrote an op-ed about it.

"[A] year into the pandemic, after the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed, and the attack on the U.S. Capitol, I am deeply concerned about the racial implications of climate anxiety," Ray (pictured) wrote.

"If people of color are more concerned about climate change than white people, why is the interest in climate anxiety so white? Is climate anxiety a form of white fragility or even racial anxiety?"

Ray says wealthy white people act they're "experiencing an existential threat for the very first time" and "can take up all the oxygen in the room."

I see what you did there.

In fact, "climate anxiety" itself is a "very privileged" term as affluent whites apparently have a bigger vocabulary to express how it affects them. By contrast, a climate activist had asked Filipinos how they felt after two typhoons had hit the country. Not many talked about it because mental health issues aren't usually a topic of discussion. Thus, "people don't even have the words for it because it's not correlated in people's minds."

Well yes, privileged AWFLs just search for things to be neurotic and hysterical about on twitter to give their empty, soft lives a sense of challenge and therefore meaning.

According to her faculty page, Ray's first book "explores the ways that environmental discourse often reinforces existing social hierarchies, drawing on a legacy of nativist, racial, and ableist exclusion in environmental history." She's also edited "Critical Norths: Space, Nature, Theory," "Disability Studies & the Environmental Humanities: Toward an Eco-Crip Theory" and "Latinx Environmentalisms: Place, Justice, and the Decolonial."

How long do they think we're going to fund this bullshit for?

But she is, generally, right about this being a very White Karen issue, a very Luxury Problem problem.

Another professor says that climate change is just "white colonization of the atmosphere," if you think about it.

White people are at it again -- this time they're "colonizing the atmosphere," according to an Australian professor.

Erin Fitz-Henry, who teaches anthropology and "development studies" at the University of Melbourne, writes in The Conversation that the notion of climate change being "racist" actually isn't new; the medical journal The Lancet noted that as of 2015, the countries of the "Global North" accounted for 92 percent of "excess" CO2 emissions.

And the Global North is overwhelmingly white.

Of course, the term "colonization," very popular in the realm of critical studies, makes it all sound much more dramatic.

"[M]ost rich white countries, including Australia, are doing precious little to properly address this inequity," Fitz-Henry writes. "For the most part, they refuse to accept the climate debt they owe to poorer countries and communities [...] this injustice -- a type of 'atmospheric colonisation' -- is a form of deeply entrenched colonial racism that arguably represents the most pressing global equity issue of our time."

Note that China is now "white" for some purposes:

China currently, and overwhelmingly, contributes more greenhouse gasses than any other country -- more than 2 and a half times what the U.S. puts out. And as of 2020, only three of the so-called Global North nations were in the top ten for CO2 emissions (the U.S., Russia and Germany).

I wish @leezeldin well & glad he was not harmed. However, he is a jerk & he politicized this. I am sitting in a Florida courtroom because my daughter was murdered there. Lee owes @KathyHochul a THANK YOU that this happened in NY & no gun was involved

Well at least you aren't politicizing things. Jerk.

Reddit has now banned the word "groomer." The left is now demanding that all social media monopolies ban the word as well.

Tim Young @TimRunsHisMouth

The left is losing their minds over the term "groomer" because it's the first time in recent history that they lost complete control of a narrative that they attempted to manipulate with their phony "don't say gay bill" line.

Ugh. A guy staged his marriage proposal in a safari park. A giraffe interfered and wound up injuring his would-be intended.

The NeverTrumpers are forever proclaiming that they are no longer Republicans, but they always do so while insisting that they remain, however, steadfastly conservative.

While continuing to argue for liberal positions.

Baloneynipples Nichols here begins to at least admit he is now just simply a Man of the Left by recanting his former conservative positions and denouncing his former belief in them as being animated by ego, selfishness, and cruelty.

Nothing like the reasons he holds his current political opinions!

Yes, "self-reflective" is definitely the *first* word that comes to mind when I think of Rick Wilson, Jennifer Rubin, Max Boot, Charlie Sykes, and Joe Walsh.

Seriously, this is just embarrassing. Tom and his moobs should take a long vacation.
