The Morning Report — 7/6/22

Good morning, kids. Wednesday and it should come as no surprise that the Highland Park mass-murderer was not only known to police for several years, but had made threats to commit mass murder, had knives, swords and other weapons actually seized by the cops, and yet despite all that was able to get the Illinois FOID card allowing him to legally purchase firearms, presumably the same ones he used in the shooting.

Remember, Illinois is the sixth toughest state in the ex-union to purchase guns and has all kinds of laws on the books that allegedly prevent people like this more-than-likely Antifa or at least Antifa-adjacent worm of a thug from possessing them. But not only is the Democrat Left screaming for more laws that will do nothing but nullify the Second Amendment, but now get a load of this bit of infuriating dumbfuckery:

Hours after the heinous July 4 attack occurred, Breitbart News noted that it had happened despite Illinois’s red flag law and numerous other gun controls.

In addition to praising his state’s red flag law, Rinehart called for an “assault weapons” ban.

On July 5, 2022, Breitbart News noted that Highland Park banned “assault weapons” in 2013, but the July 4 attack occurred despite that ban.

Additionally, Illinois has a licensing system for gun owners. The system uses Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) cards, issued by the Illinois State Police, as a licensing mechanism for people who want to buy and own a gun. Only individuals with a FOID card can legally possess a gun.

So, the Lake County DA Eric Rinehart, someone who you'd think has at least a passing knowledge of the more significant laws on the books of his jurisdiction is calling for an assault weapons ban, a law that already exists on the books.

Aside from the sheer ineptitude of the bureaucrats in Illinois that allowed this known dangerous thug to get a license, the call for a law that already exists is illustrative of Democrat-Leftist ideologically-driven incompetence. The only thing they want to do is take away your right to defend yourself against criminals and a criminal, illegitimate junta that seeks your subjugation. Period.

And then there's the disgusting nullification from New York State that essentially, to put it mildly, flips the bird at SCOTUS.

The left in New York has joined the Left Coast as a Land of Fruits and Nuts. They hate guns so much that no restriction is too much. And in telling SCOTUS to shove Bruen where the sun don’t shine, New York’s leftists have functionally eliminated concealed carry in the state. That is unconstitutional and will be reversed when SCOTUS takes it up again. But for now, there are two key problems.

First, it will take time for a test case to get to SCOTUS. New Yorkers will have to lay low for years before their freedoms are restored. Criminals won’t care. In fact, they’ll be happy because their marks will be disarmed. Second, with the myriad of “sensitive places” in the new law, SCOTUS will have yeoman work to do to identify a bright-line law that tyrants aren’t allowed to violate. As for me, I’m glad I live in the Free State of Florida.

Funny how the Left is going ape-shit about Roe insofar as striking down the imposition of infanticide on the entire nation, essentially rejecting Federalism, and yet there's the reaction of NY state in nullifying Bruen with the poor excuse of hiding behind Federalism. The problem is there is no right to abortion in the Constitution but there sure as hell is a right to keep and bear arms, which "shall not be infringed."

This schizophrenia cannot go on as these two issues illustrate. And I don't think there will be a two-state solution either. It's us or them.
