Lean And Mean ONT

Someone stole my content. Man, you can't have Jack on the ONT! And when I say “stole”, what I mean is “Weirddave ain't got much for tonight”. I need to run this by the marketing dept.

AHHH! Got it! *Ahem* What I meant to say is that tonight's ONT is LEAN AND MEAN, baby!

RIP P. J.

Here's a Twitter thread with an anecdote about the late, great P. J. O'Rourke.

I, too, would love to see that clip. As I said in the sidebar, Parliament of Whores is perhaps the best book ever to explain how the US Government actually works in real life, and it is blindingly simple to understand, and screamingly funny besides. If I ever taught a class on civics, I'd use it as a text. If you've never read it, you need to put it in your Amazon queue. I would say that it was definitely a seminal (heh) work in my understanding of politics. 101 level stuff, yes, but 30 years ago it started me in the right direction, away from my default-left college idealism.

Good News

Not The Bee: Abortions in Texas fell a whopping 60% in the first month of its new restrictions, saving over 3,000 lives

Praise the Lord and pass the legislation!

The nearly 2,200 abortions reported by Texas providers in September came after a new law took effect that bans the procedure once cardiac activity is detected, usually around six weeks of pregnancy and without exceptions in cases of rape or incest. The figures were released this month by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

In August, there had been more than 5,400 abortions statewide. State health officials said more data will be released on a monthly basis.

Now we need to work on getting similar legislation passed in other states.

Have Your Enemy Over For Tea

Sound on

Then you can hit them with the bar mace that Ace linked in the sidebar earlier this week.

My Culture Is Better Than Your Culture

And we shouldn't be afraid to say so.

Syrian Migrant Stabbed By Vienna Woman He Was Trying To Rape

Good for her. But there's a disturbing side of this story (aside from the attempted rape):

The local prosecutor’s office is also reportedly seeking to charge the woman involved in the case for bodily injury against the migrant, a move that was condemned by her lawyer.

So this woman was attacked, thrown to the ground in preparation to raping her, and because she successfully fought the attacker off with a knife, the police want to charge her. Europe is lost.

Related: Girl, five, is murdered by her parents and her body dumped in the trash in 'honour killing' in Syria

This poor baby was raped, and her parents killed her because of it. Absolutely sick.

Clickbait Content

Sleepover Horror Stories

The Most Disturbing Medical Cases

I avoid most clickbait sites because they're atrocious. Endless popups and lists in slideshow format that requite you to endlessly click next to read the next one, all the while trying to sneak a popup under the cursor to make you click through to another website. This one, at least in Brave, has no popups and presents the stories in list fashion. Since I find humans endlessly interesting, there are usually some funny or fascinating stories to be found. Like this, for example:

I was a sleepwalker. At about the age of seven, I slept over at a friend’s house, sleepwalked, and woke up in an enclosed space. I panicked. I pushed my arms straight out in front of me against what I thought was a wall. Once I realized what was happening, it was too late. It turned out to be an enormous bureau that was placed diagonally in the corner of the dining room. I ended up pushing it over. It was full of plates, glasses, and fine china, etc. It was 4 am.

I can see that happening. Poor kid.

2020s: Rise Of The.......Trad Weebs? WTF?

This is from reddit, so gird your loins. Anyway, this was posted:

Reddit.jpg

Being Reddit, there were lots of replies from people who think “fucked up” is a valid lifestyle choice, and plenty of removed replies, presumably from people who don't, but it's Reddit, the board is heavily moderated, and any replies that aren't along the lines of “Of course showing your children you German scheiße porn videos is a wonderful idea” are removed. That's not what's interesting, although it might be if the deleted posts were still there. What's interesting is that I've seen that screenshot reposted at multiple sites for mockery, and one of the consistent themes in the replies is from what what I can only think of calling “Trad (traditional) weebs”, like this:

Now, for those of you that don't know, a weeb is someone who is a fan of Japanese anime and culture. A weeaboo is someone who takes things a bit too far, they usually immerse themselves in not just anime but in hentai (animated porn) and want to become Japanese or pretend they are. These are your stereotypical neckbeards who sleep with a waifu pillow, and some of the stories about weeaboos who travel to Japan are hilarious. Short version, the went expecting to be revered, and the Japanese find them as fucked in the head as we do.

Anyhoo, finding a strong community of people who are defending traditional values through their anime fandom is not something I had on my 2022 bingo card, but it does seem to be a thing. Lets leave aside for the moment the reactionary weebs, of which there do seem to be a few.

As I said above, humans are endlessly fascinating.

Oh and BTW, Robert, a few weeks back you commented that I was a closet weeb. I'm not, aside from an enjoyment of sushi which has lead me to learn how to make it, but there are a lot of weebs in the meme community, and when I'm trolling for content for the Friday meme ONT, some of what I find is anime based.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by dictators:
