Shouldn't apologies count for something? Given that we’re all imperfect, we should *want* a society where contrition meets forgiveness? Yet we're constantly pushing towards a graceless society that treats apologies purely as confessions and thus grounds for further punishment.

When Ron Bassilian asked him to apologize for his support of the cancellations of Gina Carano and Roseanne Barr, David French refused, and added that he was happy to not be part of the principled pro-free-speech right.

I am anti-cancelling (for everyone) but I think this is an important point.

I think anyone who on the right or center right should refuse to talk about Goldberg until the left faces up to the fact that they do this shamelessly to their hated tribe

When they go on MSNBC or CNN and someone asks about Whoopie Goldberg, they should literally say "I will not say anything until you call for Disney to rehire Gina Carano"

When David French writes about Whoopie Goldberg he should include, in the first paragraph, an apology for his hateful stance toward Roseanne and a list of the people on the right who should get their jobs back before he even starts talking about Goldberg

NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. have long viewed the left's cancellation efforts as a Tasting Menu whose dishes they could choose to either savor or refuse. Roseanne Barr? Delicious, let me have a serving of that. Nicholas Sandmann? Why, he spit upon the cross! Yes please give me a heaping slice of that cancellation! Alex Jones? Milo Yiannopolis? Yes, yes, yes! Please sir, can I have some more?!

But Kevin D. Williamson, or other NeverTrumpers? Leftwingers like Whoopi Goldberg? Only then does NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. say "Take that back to the kitchen; that is repulsive, and offends my very senses."

It has long, long been the case that NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. have supported most of the left's cancellation efforts that involved their internal rivals and enemies -- the left and NeverTrump's/Conservative, Inc., coincidentally enough, share a lot of the same political enemies.

Perhaps it is because precisely that they considered themselves apart from the actual right that they have always considered themselves the "tie-breaking vote" in disputes between the right and left over the left's cancellation efforts. They're neutral, unbiased judges. They're Switzerland, offering to serve as third-party mediators.

NeverTrump/Conservative, Inc. only start knitting a flag and pompously talking about the absolute right to free speech when one of their own is targeted by the left, or someone on the left is targeted for cancellation. Then, and only then, do we start hearing about how important it is to respect even the views we hate, or about the civilization-binding power of contrition and forgiveness.

"Big shocker when that 'grace' machine gets tuned on, and who it's turned on for," a friend says, wryly.

To be honest -- to admit my cynicism -- I have not said one damn word about Ilya Shapiro because I'm observing NeverTrump's own rules. They only protect their own, and Ilya Shapiro seems to be "one of theirs." So they can handle this one. And if he gets cancelled? Oh well.

I guess that's the drawback of knifing your former coalition partners in the back!

I'm sure Ilya Shapiro is a great guy and doesn't deserve this. He merely misspoke.

But then, Roseanne Barr merely misspoke, too. Like me, she probably thought that Valerie Jarrett was Iranian, not black, and therefore saw no reason not to note that she looks vaguely Zira-ish.

She does, by the way -- she has a muzzle-ish mouth. So does white, English Gary Oldman. He looks like a wise chimp himself. Once you notice his grinning chimp monkey-muzzle you never stop noticing it.

George Bush has a bit of a muzzle too; that's why the left always called him Chimpy.

It's a feature that people of all sorts of races have and it does make them look like they're from Planet of the Apes, as the muzzle-mouth was the main prosthetic application used to make actors look "ape" like.

And if you believe Valerie Jarrett is Iranian, rather than black, because her skin is light colored and the media only talks about her family's Iranian connections, then you'd see no reason not to point out she kinda looks like Zira.

Roseanne Barr apologized, too, of course. Profusely.

David French did not wax eloquently about the healing power of contrition then, of course. He just wanted his scalp. Probably on account of his bald head.

David French and NeverTrump are Of The Left and hated Roseanne Barr for supporting Trump because Trump empowered the actual right, not the neocon right-of-the-left that was controlling the right, so they supported her cancellation.

They support the cancellation of anyone who goes against the Establishment liberal narrative. Because they are Establishment liberals.

Just Establishment liberals with a preference for lower taxes and blowing up foreigners. (Though, as we keep seeing, rich Establishment Hillary Clinton style gentry liberals like those things too.)

And if NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. are wondering why the actual right seems disinterested in the Ilya Shapiro matter -- well, now you know how we feel about you cowards absenting yourselves from a dozen previous cancellation defenses. (Or actually joining the left in demanding the cancellation!)

Doesn't feel great to feel abandoned, huh? Kind of... makes you think the people absenting themselves from the fight are cynical and mercenary, and making decisions based on sectarian allegiance rather than principle, huh?

NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. have made it quite clear, as David French just did, that they don't want to be part of any "we" with the actual political right.

They are merely the "right of the left" -- the rightward edge of the political left.

They are the neocon pseudoright, liberals who want the left to be a bit more reasonable and a bit more right-ish.

But they're not actually a part of the right and never have been; as can be seen from their vicious glee in harming anyone they perceive to be of the Deplorable Right, joining with their actual leftist allies to cancel them and take away their ability to work in their chosen professions, they absolutely hate the actual right with a bitterness and passion that is only rivaled by the hatred of the normies of the harbored by their actual coalition partners of the socialist CRT left.

They are the worst people in America, and I wish them nothing but misery and defeat.

And one day, the worst punishment of all: Self-revelation, when they realize what awful, twisted hypocritical c*nts they are, what absurdly petty self-dealers they are, puffing themselves up as paragons of grace and virtue.
