The Morning Report - 12/13/21

metaphorwritesits.jpg

Good morning, kids. Monday and of course the big story is the devastation caused by tornadoes that hit Kentucky and other areas of the central/southern US. Upwards of 90 are reported dead and the destruction is massive.

Prayers for all the victims and everyone affected. Naturally, the number one topic of discussion among the fools, charlatans and tyrants up to and including demented dotard-in-chief Joey Bivalve is not about providing aid and assistance and even a semi-believable veneer of sympathy and comfort.

"From [so-called quote-unquote "president"] Joe Biden on down, the usual suspects are already rushing to suggest that last week's deadly tornados are yet another reason the world needs to do more about climate change. Yet no science supports the claim that tornados or any other form of humanity-threatening extreme weather is on the upswing, let along links the supposed threat to global warming. . .

. . . the standard anti-warming agenda would do far more damage to humanity than all natural disasters put together -- by impoverishing us all. We simply don't yet have practical, affordable alternatives to fossil fuels (which, by the way, are still what produce most of the electricity for your Tesla).

Global warming is real, but not the catastrophic threat that the media-political-activist complex pretends. The hysterical, nonstop hype poses a far greater danger."

The editorial board at the NY Post is accurate in a sense about "global warming." Well, actually "climate change" but to be even more accurate and to deny accepting the bastardization of the language and terminology of the left, a changing climate. The climate on Planet Earth has been changing for 4.5 billion years and will continue to do so for much of the next 3-4 billion years when that big glowing orange ball in the sky some 93 million miles away finally runs out of fuel. The question is how does the combined activity of 7.5 billion human beings affect the climate? The fact is, in all practical terms, it doesn't. What's more, not only is carbon dioxide not evil poison but it and carbon itself are the very stuff of life.

Now just to be crystal clear, this does not mean we should not be good stewards of the environment. Just because I don't believe that fossil fuels will turn the Earth into Venus, doesn't mean I want a Love Canal on every corner. Far from it. But human progress in the real sense (not "progressivism") is about bettering the lives of man via science, industry and technology in such a way that causes minimal impact on the air, land and water that we need to survive, yet is not impeded by Pollyanna-ish fantasies about recreating the Garden of Eden. Where the NY Post gets it 100% right is its assertion of what the anti-warming agenda will do to all of us. It's nihilism wrapped in absolute power inside a mask of self-righteous true believer-ism. Speaking of masks, isn't that really the story of Chinese COVID lockdown mania?

One of the most percipient commentators on [Chinese] COVID is Aaron Ginn, a Silicon Valley technical writer. In March 2021, Ginn predicted that when the [Chinese] COVID crisis was finally over, we should expect "massive confirmation bias and Pyrrhic celebration by elites. There will be vain cheering in the halls of power as Main Street sits in pieces. Expect no apology, that would be political suicide. Rather, expect to be given a Jedi mind trick of "I'm the government and I helped.'"

It's too early to say whether Ginn will be proved right, but all indications are that he will. Commenting on Ginn's prediction at the time, I invoked the political philosopher James Burnham, who famously observed that civilizations tend to end not because they are invaded by an external enemy but from an inner collapse. "They are not murdered; they commit suicide," I wrote, and went on to observe that "The really scary thing about this latest health scare is not the disease but the unexpected depths of passivity it revealed."

Frankly, I don't think it will ever end. How can it? It's the perfect means of control since our overlords have convinced us to be our own gaolers. We are living in a firestorm of fear that spreads and grows hotter with no prospect of burning itself out. And more than almost anything else, it keeps us all chained to a radiator in a Delaware basement, or a sump well waiting for Jame Gumb to lower a basket of Jergens.
