First-World Problems...
This weekend I was dodging rainstorms trying to get in some grilling. As is my wont, I had picked up some gorgeous beef short ribs, not because I had any particular plan for them, but because they looked spectacular. So off to the nurse-ratched-approved Sous Vide machine for a 48 hour cook.
But the weather didn't know my plans, and so I had to skip between raindrops to get them grilled. I saw a window opening and grabbed it to great effect: damn...they smelled great!
However, before the grill could cool off enough for me to put on the cover, the skies opened up! Shit. It's a well-made grill so I wasn't particularly worried, but I have noticed in the past that if it does get rained on the starters become quite fickle, and yesterday was no different.
Last night I had to light one of the burners...BY HAND! Of course I was far too lazy to go inside and get a long match, so I had to rough it by using a twig that I scrounged off the patio.
Why can't grill companies build starters that are perfectly robust in all sorts of weather, no matter the competence or forethought of the operators? I already have to swap propane tanks by hand. Is there no end to hardships of backyard grilling?
