Steve Hayes: We Didn't Bother Fact Checking the Hunter Biden Laptop Story For FaceBook Because Vague Reasons
At the Federalist: FaceBook Censorship Partner Steve Hayes Defends Facebook's Election Meddling on Behalf of Joe Biden.
Last night on Special Report, Steven Hayes (Bret Baier's former college roommate, which is why the zero-reach Hayes is on Special Report once per week) mentioned his current grifter organization is a FaceBook fact-checker. (As he partnered his previous neoliberal magazine The Weekly Standard FaceBook as a FaceBook "fact" checker.)
Brit Hume asked if, in his capacity as a FaceBook "fact" checker, he had fact checked the Hunter Biden laptop story.
He admitted he hadn't. Hayes' claim was that the dispute was just "opinion" so there was nothing to fact-check.
"We didn't do a straight-up fact-check on the Hunter Biden story in part because there wasn’t enough information in those early days to do a definitive fact-check," Hayes said of the story that Big Tech throttled and corrupt media ignored in the weeks leading up to the pivotal 2020 presidential election. "That's part of the role of fact-checkers, determining what's factual so that you’re correcting facts rather than trying to correct opinion."
Video at the link.
There was a lot of information available before the election, however: Former Hunter Biden business partner Tony Bobulinksy confirmed that the emails involving him were real on October 30.
Note that if Hayes had done a fact-check of the story at that time -- when Tony Bobulinski, an addressee of many of the emails from Hunter Biden's laptop, confirmed that the emails were real -- then FaceBook and Twitter's political censorship of the story would have been exposed as the political meddling and collusion that it was.
And the story would have been released from full censorship before the election.
Because that could hurt the Democrat Party they're being paid to propagandize for, Hayes and Jonah Goldberg and David French remained silent.
Also note that Hayes and the Dispatch have avoided doing "fact"-checks before, in order to avoid rendering a negative judgment against the Democrat Party. Remember, The Dispatch ran a false "Fact"-check for FaceBook ruling that a pro-life group was spreading misinformation. This resulted in the group's ads being banned by FaceBook.
When it was proven the "fact" check was false and propagandistic, The Dispatch claimed that it had been run in error and retracted it. But they absolutely refused to substitute a TRUE fact check, noting that the claim was true.
The Dispatch is funded mostly by Democrat and liberal billionaires. They absolutely refuse to admit that fundamental pillars of Democrat political messaging are false.
They're not being paid to do that. They're being paid to be propaganda outlets against Trump and the Republican Party.
It has now been four f***ing years since The Dispatch retracted their smear of that pro-choice book. The Dispatch still refuses to update with an accurate fact-check.
Conservatives have demanded they finally write up a correct fact-check.
But The Dispatch ignores them. Because they're left-wing. They're here to attack conservatives, not to vindicate them.
corrected: The Dispatch ran a "fact" check claiming that a pro-life group was spreading misinformation, of course. Not a pro-choice group as I wrote originally.
