WaPo's Alleged "Conservative" Michael Gerson: Obviously Right-Wing "Fascism" is a Greater Threat Than Extreme Wokeness

Quoted, I'm imagining approvingly, at Hot Air.

I can't imagine by whom! I can't imagine who'd jump at the chance to publish a long quote arguing that the unholy union between the Democrat Party, violent paramilitaries on the street, and tech monopolist censors is less dangerous than Orange Man Bad!

Michael Gerson is a filthy c*** who still claims to be a "conservative" -- one of the many well-paid ones at major media outlets who exclusively attacks conservatives.

He pats himself on the back for his courage. He has a book out called, I shit you not, Heroic Conservatism.

Of the kind he himself practices, no doubt.

The kind that is pro-leftwing social policy.

He's a Bush aide -- of course.

Of course, of course. Of course.

The full article is behind a paywall, but Twitchy notes that Gerson admits that he himself is "woke." He thinks wokeness is good.

So obviously-- another True Conservative. David French is talking up the Conservative Case for Critical Race Theory, too. And again, I'm not kidding. He argues that Critical Race Theory is good, and that "conservatives" should embrace it.

They should just reject the "extreme" parts of it.

This True Conservative Gerson seems to be like that. He's woke, but he does allow that "extreme wokeism" is sometimes bad.

And he looks right past the imposition of extreme wokeism into all corners of one's daily private life to find the real authoritarians -- Republicans and Trump supporters.

Who, as far as I know, do not have a single tech monopoly squelching all of their political opponents' speech, nor a single bank cancelling the accounts of their political enemies.

Nor a new $100 million initiative proposed by Biden to find "the real terrorists."

Here is NeverTrump in all its squalor and filthy cowardice:

In comparing the right's fear of extreme critical race theory and the left's fear of fascism, it is not really useful to ask which horror would be worse if implemented. Both ideologies are ultimately at war with liberal democracy -- the pursuit of a common good, the practice of incremental reform, the cultivation of social trust and the acceptance of democratic outcomes. But it is crucial to ask which nightmare is currently most likely to be implemented.

Given that the tech monopolies, media, banks, academy, and most government institutions are enforcing extreme wokism, you'd imagine he'd say that extreme wokism is the one currently being implemented.

But no. He says it's right-wing fascism that is about to descend upon America.

Because... Orange Man Bad.

And here there is no question. Extreme wokeness -- the enforcement of ideological sameness through intimidation, the illiberal silencing of competing voices, the canceling of human beings for relatively minor infractions, the forced, ritual renunciations of previous views -- is a problem on some college campuses, in some newsrooms and within some corporate cultures.

"Some" college campuses. "Some" newsrooms. (Surely not the Washington Post!) And "some" corporate cultures.

And I don't want to minimize such excesses.

He said lyingly, after having just minimized such excesses.

But seriously now. Only one of these nightmares has taken over a major political party, which is in the process of purging all dissent.

You might be thinking he means the Democrat Party, which is pushing wokeness even in the army and navy.

Nope!

Only one of these delusions is the governing vision of a former president who just might be president again. Only one of these developments has turned the backbones of the minority leader of the House, the minority leader of the Senate and almost every other Republican leader into gelatinous goo.

Nancy Pelosi literally just said she "thanked" Ilhan "Omar" Nur for her rabid attack on America. And Jews.

Only one of these ideologies produced a crowd that sacked the U.S. Capitol and threatened violence against political leaders.

Only one of these ideologies has put our cities under siege by bandits for a year and caused $4 billion in damage and dozens of murders. Only one of these ideologies has caused murder to be declared essentially a misdemeanor.

Only one of these movements is working in state legislatures across the country to make electoral systems more vulnerable to manipulation and mob rule.

Are you f***ing kidding me?

Large elements of the American populist right mythologize the nation’s past rather than face its failures.

You mean, they don't embrace the 1619 project?

They dismiss real news as fake and embrace obvious propaganda. They are anti-intellectual to the point of denying lifesaving scientific truths.

Like the Wuhan lab leak, for example?

They fear diversity and target racial, ethnic and religious minorities for resentment.

Oh, you must mean turning the public schools into racism factories where white children are taught they are oppressors of a vile race at age 7?

They cultivate a sense of victimhood by warning of arrogant elites and vast conspiracies.

Yeah, the elites aren't arrogant. And they're certainly not conspiring to suppress their political rivals, as Fauci's emails with Mark Zuckerberg show.

These are not isolated ailments; they are the textbook symptoms of a fascist political infection.

And here we have the communists warning about those fascists, as they prepare to put all of their political opponents in jail.

These people are plainly on the left -- and not the center-left, either; they are extreme partisans and committed to among the farthest-left ideological claims -- but still they continue their hustle of collecting money as "conservatives of conscience" and "heroic conservatives" who just happen to tell the left everything the left wants to hear.

When fascism comes to America, it will come saying "But his tweets" and "But muh normzzz."
