Gallup Poll: Public Favorability Towards Corporate Spectator Sports Falls THIRTY POINTS, from +20 to -10, in a Single Year

I hope professional athletes have an idea of what they might like to do as a second job.

Oh, and good luck getting the public to pay for your stadiums and arenas!

Sports had a precipitous fall since last summer, especially among Republicans and Independents. See the chart below:

gallupsports.jpg

...

The part that really pops out is the view of Republicans and Independents. Republicans went from +11 to -35, a 46-point drop. Independents went from +26 to -10, a 36-point drop. Perceptions dropped more among women than men; perceptions also dropped more in points amongst non-white Americans than white Americans, but because of how positively non-white people viewed sports in 2019 it’s still net +16 among that group whereas it’s now -22 among whites

Ya Boi Zach has been making a point about the coming end (almost here) of the comic book industry: It takes two months to make a habit, and it takes two weeks to break a habit.

All of entertainment is determined to alienate their audiences.

They think that if they go too far, they can later pull back from nonstop leftist/Marxist/Maoist propaganda and the audience will just naturally come back.

Nope. People are breaking old habits now, and it's harder to form habits (or re-form them) than to break them.

People have been using the large amount of time required to be a sports fan for other purposes. They've formed new habits of living which are incompatible with watching 4+ (maybe even 12) hours of sports per week.

Why would they come back? These are trivial pastimes. One's as good as another.

I don't know why -- maybe just competition from other genres -- but the country almost completely stopped buying rock music twenty years ago.

Rock music sales never just naturally "came back." Habits do not form without an external reason to form them.

Once rock lost its association with coolness and youth, it was just done.

It's too late for sports to get the audience back. It's like falling out of love-- once you've passed from frustration to anger to indifference, you just don't care anymore. That person is no longer attractive to you.

America has fallen out of love with Corporate Sports Entertainment/Marxist Indoctrination.

And we are never getting back together.

One parting shot, also from the Outkick article:

Of the 25 industries listed, the only ones with a worse net negative rating than sports in aggregate are pharmaceuticals (-15) and federal government (-20).

Well done, fellas. You were becoming millionaires just by playing children's games.

Good luck moonlighting at Foot Locker.

A friend sent me this tip: ESPN started a #Woke controversy by talking about Extreme Woke Shit instead of sports, as usual, and is now covering the reaction to the story they themselves started.

They start the Woke Controversy, then they spend hours covering themselves.

My friend further notes this is the FIRST TIME IN SPORTS HISTORY THAT ALL FOUR MAJOR PROFESSIONAL LEAGUES -- BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, HOCKEY, and FOOTBALL -- ARE PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME.

IN FACT, ADD A FIFTH -- MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER IS ALSO PLAYING RIGHT NOW.

BUT RATHER THAN TALK ABOUT THE

5IVE 5UCKING SPORTS LEAGUES PLAYING RIGHT NOW

#WokESPN WOULD STILL RATHER FILL UP AIRTIME WITH #WOKE POLITICS.

It's the Rachel Maddow Show with occasional score updates.

By the way: Dying Madden football videogame franchise has put in the non-football-player Cory Kaepernick into the game as a free agent you can put on a team, despite the fact that when the league gave him his own try-out, he did not seem to care and did not seem to want to play.

Madden gave him stats making him a better player than half of all active, real quarterbacks. Ones who are actually in shape, rather than deconditioned, deteriorated once-mediocre washouts.

The game is being received brutally by disappointed customers.

It's such crap that it has adopted the "free to play" model-- a con where they give you the game for free, but then constantly demand you pay them for important things that should just be part of the base game.

On Metacritic, it gets a shocking 0.2 out of ten.

This may not be a case of Go Woke Get Broke but rather the closely-linked syndrome of Going Broke? Get Woke!

When a company is going out of business, it will often attempt a Woke marketing blitz in the mistaken belief that dirt-poor brokeass no-account Gen Z antifa communist layabout freegans have money to spend and will spend it on Woke Corporate Products.

It never works.

Gillette was losing marketshare on its pricey razors, so they tried insulting men with enough testosterone to grow facial hair, their (former) core customer base.

Companies that attempt the Going Broke? Get Woke! maneuver just go broker faster.

And speaking of videogames:
