Laura Lashes Into Louisiana and Gulf Coast as Category 4 Hurricane, But Then Weakens to Tropical Storm

Sorry I wasn't more aware of this -- as this category 4 hurricane threatened very few New Yorkers or media lice, they didn't cover it with much urgency.

The storm caused a lot of destruction, but hopefully is now almost done.

"Extremely dangerous" Hurricane Laura made landfall overnight near Cameron, Louisiana, bringing "catastrophic storm surge, extreme winds and flash flooding" to portions of the state, the National Hurricane Center said Thursday. The storm had intensified rapidly into a Category 4 hurricane before slamming into the Gulf Coast near the Louisiana-Texas border.
By mid-Thursday, the hurricane weakened to a tropical storm as it moved north over Louisiana, which took the brunt of the damage. It was continuing to bring strong winds and flooding rainfall to northern Louisiana and southeastern Arkansas, according to forecasters.

Texas governor Greg Abbott proclaimed it a "miracle" that Texas has been so lightly touched by the hurricane, with either zero or very few lives lost.
