NBC to Begin Laying Off Employees;
Promise to Keep Layoffs to Less Than 3500

Less than three thousand five hundred?

That's a lot of people.

Anyone want to bet the layoffs go further than that?

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday the cutbacks would likely be held to less than 10% of the company's 35,000 employees. Sources indicated to Deadline that the Journal number was a bit aggressive.

"It is said that crises tend to accelerate and exacerbate trends that are already happening," Shell said on the earnings call.

Yes. Covid tends to kill those who already have comorbidities.

...

One area being pared down at NBCU came to light Monday when a number of former staffers at a portfolio of "Talk"-branded websites operated by NBC Sports said they had left the company amid cutbacks. Sites like Hardball Talk and College Football Talk of Pro Football Talk were modeled after Pro Football Talk, which has had a partnership with NBC since 2009.

...

Peacock, NBCU's entrant into the streaming derby, launched in April in Comcast's cable and broadband footprint and then nationally in July. Shell said it had performed better than expected, drawing 10 million sign-ups since launch, but the company has not said how many of those who signed up actually subscribed, and at which level.

My guess is that people signed up either on a whim or to see the Psych 2 movie -- which, sadly, was so bad I didn't even want to discuss it -- and those are free sign-ups and no, they won't be paying to see Peacock's paid content.

NBC is cutting staff in order to put more staff into their streaming service.

From what I've seen, their streaming service will be one of the many, many dead also-rans in one year.

Update: the layoffs have been used to get rid of an executive accused of "misconduct."

@DylanByers #Break: Paul Telegdy, the NBCUniversal Entertainment Chairman who is under investigation for allegations of misconduct, will leave the company amid a broader NBC restructuring to centralize television and streaming networks. Story at @NBCNews soon.

That alleged "misconduct"?

Thursday’s shakeup comes less than a week after Telegdy was accused of alienating key producers and fostering a hostile work environment during his two-year tenure as head of NBC Entertainment.

At the time, NBCUniversal said it would investigate after the Hollywood Reporter published a troubling account of Telegdy's leadership, which included allegations from unnamed sources that he had engaged in homophobic, sexist and racist behavior. Telegdy responded: "The nature of these allegations flies in the face of everything I stand for."

Eh. A couple of weeks ago I would have celebrated another media executive getting taken down by their SJW allies. I guess I still do celebrate it, a bit.

But a female reporter under the pseudonym "Penny Parker" infiltrated the "Whisper Network" in the (dysfunctional, dying) comic book industry, and found that the radical feminists and Marxists there would choose men to start spreading rumors about if those men had the audacity to hold jobs that women wanted.

And a fair amount of the time, their coordinated smear campaign tactics have succeeded in getting people fired or their advancement blocked... freeing up some positions for leftwing slanderesses.

The person who is replacing this ejected male executive is, of course, a woman.

I'm not saying this guy is innocent. Or that his expulsion was engineered by dishonest means.

I'm just saying: It's a real eye-opener to see that leftwing women are in fact now undeniably getting together in secret chatrooms and Whisper Networks to plot which slanders to level against men and, in so doing, coincidentally clear the way for their own career ambitions.*

People believe that if several women make an allegation, they must be telling the truth.

Must they?

Not really. Not when you realize there are women-only Whisper Networks organized in corporations, with members agreeing, explicitly or tacitly, to support each other's allegations and to echo them and repeat them and spread them.

BTW: If you liked Part 1 of the Whisper Network expose, Part 2 is a doozy.

* Oh, the targets are not always men. Sometimes the target is another woman, one who has committed the three sins of 1, being much more in-demand for work than the Marxist feminists, 2, being perceived as being conservative-leaning or even just conservative-tolerant, and 3, of being better looking than the Marxist feminists.

That last one really seems to bother them!
