Judge Orders Old Lawsuit By Virginia Guiffre to Be Released on Thursday
Plus: Barr Hearing Thread, Part II
Virginia Guiffre is the chief accuser against Epstein and now Ghislaine Maxwell.
She had previously filed a lawsuit, naming the names of powerful and connected people she was forced to have sex with.
That lawsuit and all depositions, filings, etc. associated with it have been sealed.
Now a judge has ordered the lawsuit and its documentary materials unsealed.
Alan Derschowitz -- alleged to be among the men named in the first lawsuit -- seems to have given us a preview of who else is named in there, including former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and various billionaires.
Not Trump, though!
Sad!
[D]uring the course of the hearing, Dershowitz's attorney Howard Cooper said in court that the team had in fact already obtained some of the depositions and that Dershowitz identified Barak as well as L Brands and Victoria's Secret owner Leslie Wexner as two of the men Giuffre says she was trafficked to by Epstein, a wealthy financier convicted of sex crimes and suspected of many more, the Herald reported.
Many people think that Wexner is the guy who gave Epstein his start-up money.
And a lot of people are wondering why someone would give Epstein a big stack of money.
"Giuffre has also alleged that she was forced to have sex with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barack [sic]," the filing read in response to the claims against Dershowitz. "Giuffre has offered no proof other than her uncorroborated word."
Derschowitz is suing Giuffre for defamation. He denies the claim, and offers further that he's only had sex with one woman, his wife, in his entire life.
Which would be easy to disprove... if it were untrue.
I suppose it's possible it's just his wife and Giuffre. Still, a bold denial which seems like it might be true because... why make such a big denial if you knew someone was in a position to contradict it?
More:
Giuffre claims that Epstein passed her off to his rich and powerful friends, including Britain's Prince Andrew, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, financier Glenn Dubin, model scout Jean-Luc Brunel and former Senator George Mitchell. The men have denied the allegations, and prosecutors formally began the process seeking the British government's help to question the prince.
Below, more clips from Barr. See especially the second clip below, in which Barr demands to know, "Since when is it okay to burn down a federal court?"
Update: The Democrats questioned Barr, the Attorney General, about Trump's response to coronavirus, for some reason.
It did not go well for them.
Maybe he's confusing the Attorney General for the Surgeon General.
Words Are Hard.
